Sea Reptile Variety

This is an umbrella category for the reptile merfolk which dwell in the oceans and fresh waters of the world.

They include Crocodile, snake, lizard, and sea turtle varieties though rarer kinds exist as well. It has for example long been debated whether the dragon is a reptile or not.

Reptiles tend to be scaled, cold blooded creatures who breath air and lay eggs on land.

Because of this sea reptiles need a special breeding society which has both access to water and sea. In other words, a sanded beach is required. It is said that, in order to keep the reptiles island safe from ground-dwellers it has been placed upon a leviathan sea turtles back. Constantly on the move, It's shell is carved with magical formations of space, time and illusion keeping it mostly safe.

Sometimes Humans will stumble over this lands in spite of the magical boundary. However, many species of the reptile variety are no pushovers, leading most of these intruders to perish with only the rare escapee.

The sea reptile sanctuary is a giant sea turtle and has sometimes been called Aspidochelone by the few surviving human visitors.

Every year, the sea-reptile sanctuary stops by the major merfolk sanctuaries to drop off the reptile merfolk soon to come of age.

Naturally, even though Reptile Merfolk do not have gills or other means to breath beneath water, this doesn't pose a problem for their extended stay underwater for the magic inmate to merfolk will act subconsciously.
