Colonel O'Hara had ordered the mobilization of Air Cavalry units to sweep the area around the landing pads of the starport. Flying in groups of three gunships on VTOL thrusters, the gunships used repulsors for rapid jumps and maneuvering around the battlefield, loaded with heavy and highly accurate weapons. Primarily using rapid fire plasma cannons and micro-missiles, thanks to the extremely rare anti-air abilities of the Aliens they had little to fear. Consisting of craft with crews of three (pilot, co-pilot, gunner/electronics), the gunships would be on a wide patrol arc.

Dana was the echelon leader of the lance. "Girls, keep sweeping. Bosslady has said to light up anything that we pick up. Stay on comms to blast anything that the perimeter picks up." Air crews relied upon rapid maneuvers to target and engage enemy units in overlapping fields of fire.

A group of a dozen or so Hatchlings had dropped out of the freighters, using one of the open maintenance hatches to land stealthily. Going to zig and zag along the ground, heading towards nearby maintenance access tunnels used for repairs to the landind pads andoperations. A call would come up from one of the infantrywomen on patrol. "Movement!"

Dana would call out, "Target lock!" The three gunships would immediately zoom in, going to highlight the mobile Broodlings along the ground. Each gunship would fire a spew of micromissiles at them. They would detonate all over them, leaving so much ichor about the ground. "Target neutralized command! Returning to patrol."

The smaller alienss had done thier job. They had located where the Cordon was - even if being vaped before they could near it. But the potential breeders had revealed their assets.
