On the Industrial Planet Cascadia

The Core Planet (Cascadia) was a founding member of the Federation. One of the first extra-planetary colonies that the humans had established when they journeyed into the stars, rich in natural resources. It had rapidly become an early industrialized planet thanks to the rapid population boom it had enjoyed. The biosphere of the planet was barren and early on had been heavily mined for resources, so the majority of the population had come to live over in large domed cities with much of the planet's surface coming to be dotted by domed cities and heavy industrial plants directly processing ore for manufacturing.

Multiple centuries over in to it's colonization, Cascadia was still a booming planet and one of the richest core planets. With a population of over two and a half billion with a high standard of living. Most ores were now mined in the asteroid belts of the system, and little agriculture was done on planet. Luxuries came in from offworld to the planet's numerous starports.

Due to the planet's importance, it also had a substantial military garrison present. The 197th 'Amazon' Heavy Infantry Mobile Brigade had been deployed there. The 'Amazon' brigade was from the settled planet of Cobra III, which had a long established matriarchy and was ruled by a successive line of the strongest and most powerful females living in tribes. A loosely established government of the various tribes and few opportunities for immediate conflict since the planet had joined the Federation had lead to many volunteering for military regiments.

The garrisoning of Cascadia was simple, having little more danger than the occasional pirate raid, keeping the peace, and general riot control of the heavy handed unit. The ever aggressive 'Amazon Brigade' was supposed to be rotating out soon somewhere that wouldn't have them constantly threatening the rather quiet planetary domes.

So when one of the larger starports of the planet, Beta Thranquil, which served as a primary outpost for foodstuffs and luxury items distributed to the better off domes on the planet had reported three heavy freighters coming in without docking clearance and going through automatic landing procedures, the local starport authority had taken it upon themselves to order a 'drill inspection' to send part of the unit there to investigate said freighters.
