Skyler turned around, leaning back against the counter before looking down slightly. To his surprise, he saw Cleo was quietly eating her food. This gave him an idea. He had yet to use his Observe skill on anyone or anything. Hmm, Cleo wouldn't mind, right? He focused on Cleo and cast Observe on her and received the following notification. - 5 Mp

Skyler smiled, tilting his head slightly as he read that before saying to himself. "Hmm, so that's how old you are. Mm, yeah. You are my pretty kitty." At that moment, his mother walked into the room. He was still too focused as his eyes looked at Verona, accidentally using Observe on her as well, resulting in the following notification. - 5 Mp

Skyler barely caught a glimpse of the information before brushing it out of his view. Verona looked his way and asked. "Another fly?" He looked to her slightly confused before saying. "Um, yeah. Stupid flies." She nodded and said, "We really need to get some fly tape. They keep coming in when we feed the cats." before walking to the table to start reading a book. "Yeah, evil flies." He absentmindedly said, but knew it would take a lot more before they actually went to get any. Sure, he could go out and get some himself, but there was the risk of having an attack out there with no one to help him. It wasn't a high enough priority for him to go by himself in this heat.

Skyler shook his head, refocusing his mind on what he had been thinking about previously. 'I was using Observe...' As that thought popped into his head. He remembered what he had wanted to do. He wondered what would happen if he used Observe on mundane items. Would he receive detailed information? Or would it be simple blurbs? With this in mind, he used Observe on the stove in front of him, a light bulb under the stove vent, and a plastic container of cat treats nearby. A new red exclamation flashed that he allowed to pop up along with the observed information. 5 x 3 = - 15 Mp

Observe has increased from level 1 to 2 - Mana cost has been removed. Quality of information has been improved. Information included has been updated: relationship values from - 200 to 200 and mood.

Skyler smiled after reading all that. This was very valuable information and he leveled up Observe in the process! He was curious as to how the information quality had been improved, so he used it on the light bulb once again, resulting in the following.

Skyler blinked twice after reading that. He was quite surprised by how much the information provided had improved. He didn't know off of the top of his head that this light bulb only used 8 joules per second. The longer this went on, the more he was convinced that this was actually real. This prompted him to look in the direction of his bedroom and wonder. 'Is there really something unique awaiting me in my room?' At that moment, Travon's voice rang out. "Verona, I'm hungry." She let out a sigh without looking away from her book and said. "What do you want to eat?"

Skyler could almost hear the smile in Travon's voice as he said, "Food." before chuckling. Skyler and Verona looked to one another and shook their heads before she replied. "Do you want something here or did you want Skyler to take you somewhere?" There was a groan before Travon said. "What do we have available?" She soon replied. "You don't know what we have?" He grunted and said. "I didn't see anything last time I looked." She let out a sigh before saying. "We have eggs, bacon, sausage, fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, oatmeal, and bread."

Travon said. "Mm, no. I ate the last of the bacon, fruits, and the vegetables last night." To which Verona replied. "Really? All of it? Travon! That was a pound of bacon, half a dozen fruits, and at least as many vegetables." There was a long pause before Travon grunted and said. "I was hungry. Get it? Hunngry." Both Verona and Skyler looked to one another with a sigh. At which point Skyler asked. "Should I go to the store then? Or should I get something from Wendy's for you?"

Verona shook her head and said. "No, it's too hot to go to the store. Travon, what do you want from Wendy's?" Travon grumbled and said. "Fine, I want a salad. No, chicken. I'm getting tired of chicken. Oh, and a sooda. I'm tired of water." Skyler sighed and said. "Fine, but I'm not getting you a large. You know what happened to your legs last time." There was another grumble, but no reply. Verona turned to Skyler and said. "Drive safe. I love you." Skyler smiled and said. "Aww, you're no fun. Love you too." She replied. "I know." With that, he turned to walk toward his bedroom.

However, when Skyler stepped into his bedroom, it occurred to him that he made a mistake. This wasn't because he had remembered that there was a unique surprise in his bedroom, oh no. It was because he received the following notification.

Skyler's eyes widened as he read that before looking around. Strangely enough, it looked exactly like his room, except for one major difference. There was a beautiful Japanese goth girl sitting upon his bed, looking towards the front door. She had straight shoulder-length raven black hair, dark purple eyes, black lip stick, and pale white skin. Covering this woman's slender frame was a black halter top with a skull on the front, a studded choker around her neck, a silver full finger ring on each of her fingers, and a pair of black jeans. When he looked a little closer, he could see that both of her ears were pierced by two crescent moon earrings, one was black and the other was white.

As Skyler's eyes focused on her, he accidentally used Observe on her as he asked. "Um, who are you? What are you doing in my house?" He was quite surprised by the following notification.

Observe failure. Target is too high of a level.

Skyler scratched the back of his head while reading that, but by the time he turned his attention back to her. She was right in front of him with her claw finger rings at his neck and said. "How did you get in here? No one should have been able to get into my barrier, especially without me knowing." He tilted his head slightly away from her claws as his eyes looked down into hers and said. "I walked into my room and found myself here. Now, back to my questions. Who are you? And what are you doing in my house?"

At that moment, Skyler saw a red 5 fly in front of his eyes as several small pricks were felt upon his neck. The thing that worried him was his health dropped by the same amount. - 5 Hp She slowly pulled back her hand and said. "Hmm. Well, you don't seem to be lying. Heck, you are barely dressed." As she looked down at his black boxers, she blushed deeply and turned slightly away. She let out a sigh while continuing to speak. "Look, I'm Zissu. I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot, but I'm not technically in your house. I'm just in an illusion barrier that I happened to put within the same area as your house." He smiled as he said. "It's nice to meet you, Zissu. I'm Skyler."

While watching Zissu a moment longer, Skyler asked. "So, an illusion barrier is actually on a different plane of existence?" She looked to him, blinking twice then quirked an eyebrow as she spoke. "Right. Why do you seem confused about that? A simple barrier like this isn't uncommon within the Abyss. Look, I just need to lay low here for a little while, okay?" He sighed softly with a nod. "I suppose, but can you let me out of this illusion barrier? I need to get dressed. I have an errand to run."

As Skyler's words left his mouth, his mind ran over what an illusion barrier was supposed to be in theory. 'Sure, I've written about this subject, but that was just it, writing. Now that i am actually in one, it doesn't seem that different from reality. Although there is the difference in the air and a lack of noise from the rest of the house. This is basically a pocket of subspace from the original plane of existence I was in previously. The problem here stems from not having the skill to create or exit an illusion barrier myself. Hmm, but with Zissu being higher level than me it would be unlikely I can beat her in either of the checks. Be it Strength or Intellect. This is my loss.'

Zissu shook her head and said. "I can't let you do that, Skyler. If I collapse this barrier now, he will surely find me." Skyler frowned before looking at his phone while thinking about making a call. However, upon seeing the message on his phone's screen that was clearly out of the question. It clearly said, "No service." which only made him sigh and think. 'Ah, right. I'm on a different plane of existence and I don't have any way to beam information across dimensions..' He looked up to her and said. "Well, calling my family to tell them I can't get their food is out of the question. Is there anything I can do to make this end sooner? Who are you hiding from anyway?"

Zissu looked down then back over to Skyler with a huff, looking slightly embarrassed. He smiled softly while watching her rather cute expression and asked. "Is it life threatening?" She shook her head before looking away again and said. "You needn't concern yourself with it, honest." He lifted a brow and tilted his head as he spoke. "Well, I can't very well ignore a young lady in distress." He playfully smiled before continuing to speak. "Especially one hiding in my room of all places." She started to giggle, covering her mouth with her right hand before looking to him and said. "I, I suppose not."

Zissu looked around the room then back to Skyler and said. "All right, I'll be honest. I'm hiding from my father. I am betrothed to someone I don't even know." She stomped her right foot down while turning with a huff before continuing to speak. "I mean, we live in The United States. Not Japan! Is it so wrong to want to marry someone for love? Sure, honoring the family is all well in good, but shouldn't they want more for their daughter!?" As she spoke, he could clearly hear her sniffling. Her right hand lifted up to wipe something from her face.

Skyler let out a sigh, knowing how hard it was to deal with something you felt you had no control over. In her case, he was certain she only needed the proper words of encouragement. He slowly reached out his left hand to touch Zissu's left shoulder and said. "No, it is not. I won't say their will is right, but I am sure they feel it is what is best. Parents are just people too. Everyone and I mean everyone, makes mistakes." She turned to look at him. He could see a few tears running down her face. He could feel the anguish running through his body as he felt part of what she did. As he did, a new red exclamation flashed that he allowed to pop up.

Skyler only managed to skim that before he mentally brushed it out of the way, refocusing on Zissu and said. "You can move out of his house. Don't give him a choice. Show him your resolve and prove not only to him, but to yourself that you are your own person. I am certain you have your own thoughts, dreams, and abilities, right? There would be nothing he can legally do to stand in your way." She bit her bottom lip and smiled before turning around to hug him tightly, pressing her body gently against his before letting go. She looked off to the side and said. "You know what? You're right. Thank you, Skyler. I, I need to go talk to him as soon as possible. Thank you for chatting with me. You have no idea how much this means to me."

As Zissu spoke, Skyler felt a wave of relief run through his body. He smiled and said. "Probably not. But, I wish you luck, Zissu." She lifted a hand toward the ceiling and the world around them shattered into a million pieces. His eyes looked around, although he had written about this many times before. It was a new thing to witness it with his own eyes. The tiny fragments spun around, showing glimmers of the reality that they once held together before rapidly pulling back together, reforming once again into his bedroom. Upon its reassembly he noticed that she was missing. When this thought entered his mind, his quest turned itself in.

Skyler was surprised by the abilities provided by Nekojin Form, but sighed when he saw how expensive it was and thought. 'Well, I won't be using that form for a while.' When he realized he had leveled up, he opened his character sheet and saw he had 5 new skill points to spend. However, he shook his head when he looked at his stats. His Endurance was especially low. If he remembered what Endurance did correctly, not only did it affect his hit points and actual endurance, but his regeneration rate as well. If he was going to survive this would have to be his first priority. He let out a sigh as he put his 5 new skill points into Endurance, increasing it from 4 to 9.

When Skyler did, he felt the limits of his body extend outward before relaxing. It was like a giant weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He lifted up his hands while looking himself over. He certainly didn't look different, but the feeling was interesting nevertheless. His mind trailed back to Zissu and figured he would never see her again, but at least she seemed happy now. That was enough, right? Hmm, speaking of which he had an errand to run. He headed to his dresser to get changed, putting on a pair of blue jean shorts, socks, and shoes before heading out the door to run this errand for his father.
