After what began to feel like an intense quiet came to be too much, Sally poured a glass of water for each of them. Just as Sally had taken her first drink, Aurora broke the silence. With a deep purple that faded into her entire head she asked, "...Isz Jamesz...Sälly...mate?"
Sally choked on her drink, her coughing and hacking came with yellow flickering from Aurora. Eventually, Sally managed to shake her head. "God...no. No, not at all!"
Aurora reached out, still flickering yellow. "Sälly...healthy? Live?"
Sally nodded, pounding her chest to try to breathe better. "Yes. I'm good, just...shit, that was a shock."
Aurora shimmered pack to a light purple. "Isz...James hävv...muh...", she pulled her lips into her mouth. Without teeth, it made her face look like she could suck her head into her mouth.
A look of realization swept across Sally's face. "Oh. My God. You have a crush on him!"
Aurora flickered orange,waving her hands and shaking her head. "No! No crush, no hurt Jamesz!"
Sally put her hand on Aurora's shoulder. "Not that crush. You're attracted to him!", she tried to keep from laughing. An alien has a thing for humans. Who'd guess?
Aurora shifted back to a deep purple. "...Yääsz...", she admitted. She brought her knees to her chin, burying her face in her legs.
Sally shimmied herself next to her, wrapping her arm around her in a sideways hug. "Hey...I won't tell."
Aurora nodded, without looking. Her arms and chest faded into a blue-green color. "...Thänk...", she mumbled.
After a few minutes of more silence, a loud knock came at the door. Aurora jumped up, flickering yellow and orange while running to James's bedroom. She was already crawling under by the time he came out.
