battle planning with Duncan

Chapter 33 by ARavingLooony ARavingLooony

"What? you mean I won't be in the battle?" the rather disappointed voice of Alistair asked, aghast as the three Warden's discussed the plan of attack on the darkspawn.

Duncan sighed "I am sorry, Alistair. I know you wish to be by my side on the battlefield, but this is by the king's personal request. If the beacon is not lit then Teyrn Loghain's men won't know when to charge"

"Duncan is right, Alistair. This may not be the most glorious task, but it is necessary. You've been a Warden longer than me, surely you can understand" Aedan agreed.

"I...." Alistair hung his head, knowing the elder and junior Warden's were correct "yes, I understand" he was clearly not happy about the plan but Aedan knew that he would do his duty "I will do as asked" he stood, shoulder's slumped in defeat.

Duncan smiled "fear not, Alistair, you're young and there will be plenty of time for you to slay darkspawn before your time comes and you do what must be done"

"What must be done?" Aedan frowned, confused.

The two Warden's looked to the new recruit "it's...nothing. Nothing you need worry about yet" Alistair said.

"I must go now and join the king, when the battle starts I trust the two of you will do as you're told" Duncan informed.

"You have my word, Duncan" Aedan promised.

"And mine too" Alistair added.

"Good, wait for the signal before you proceed to the Tower of Ishal" Duncan commanded before leaving to join King Cailain on the battlefield.
