Now we meet up with Janette.

After lying down and catching her breath for awhile, Druuna recovered her strength and put her clothes back on before leaving. As she left the guard house, Druuna made sure to give Allen a quick kiss before departing down the street, towards the Finders Guild where Janette would be waiting for her.

Ezra was waiting for her at the Guildhall when Druuna arrived. With a happy grin he greeted Druuna and handed her a bundle of odd looking papers. Looking at Ezra quizzically, Druuna asked “What is all this? I’m not a librarian Ezra.” The old man cackled and shook his head “Those aren’t books missy, those are documents. From the Mayor of Greenport.”
“The mayor? What’s he want from me?”
Ezra clapped his hands and replied “It’s not what he wants from you. It’s what he wants from the guild. And it’s about your duty to the Guild and to the fine city of Greenport.”
Druuna frowned “Duty? Yeah right Ezra, be serious. I don’t give a shit about duty. What’s this about and what’s in it for me?”
“Alright then, let me explain it to you, missy. That engineering book you found was a real treasure. The devices in that book could make Greenport a very rich place. The only problem is securing the materials to construct said devices. We know of one place that is likely to have the supplies necessary, but the city owns it and they’re not likely to give it to the Guild without a hefty price. They wont send their guards in there, but they’re afraid we’ll steal everything we find if we’re given free control of the place. So the government has given the guild the right to send two guild members in; enough to find the materials, but not enough to carry them out. That’s where you come in, Druuna. Most finders aren’t very good fighters; we have to use large groups for safety, but you’ve shown yourself to be very resourceful. I want you and another guild member of your choosing to go to the old warehouse to the North and investigate. Find if the materials are there and then report back so a proper retrieval company can be sent.”
Druuna looked carefully at Ezra, trying to see if there was anything he wasn’t telling her “Again, why should I help you, Ezra? It sounds pretty damn dangerous, so what’s in this for me?”
The wizened old man threw up his hands and exclaimed “People these days! Always expecting you to pay them for every little favor! Fine, ten thousand caps after you return.”
Druuna grinned predatorily at Ezra “Ten thousand for me and ten thousand for whoever I take along.”
“T-T-Ten thousand each?! What am I, made of caps? You are a horribly greedy woman and you should feel ashamed! Stealing from an old man like this! Fine, fine! But you’re not getting a fucking cent of it until after the job, you got that?”
Druuna grinned smugly and shook the old guild masters hand “Sure, sure, whatever you say Ezra. I’ll go get Janette and be out of the city by sundown. You got a map to this warehouse place?”
“You need a map? I thought a gold-digger like you would be able to just follow the scent of money.” Ezra grumbled.
Tiring of the mans theatrics, Druuna sighed and replied “Just tell me, you old ham.”
The elder snorted “It should be in those papers I gave you. Now get out of my sight, you blood sucker.”
Shaking her head, Druuna left the entranceway to the whiney old man and found the young Janette waiting for her in the guilds lounge area. Smiling softly at girl, Druuna said “Hey Janette, you got everything? We’ve got a bit of a job to do for the guild.” Janette nodded enthusiastically “I got all my supplies packed and-….Um, Druuna? You got some butter on your cheek. Were you just eating breakfast?” Druuna wiped a splotch of sticky white fluid off her cheek and replied “Oh that’s not-er, I mean, yeah. Breakfast. Alright, let’s go.”

The two women gathered their gear and quickly left the city, following an old hiking trail North of the city.
