Chapter 36 by daciasdesire daciasdesire

Is Sunday a day of rest?

Spencer finishes the renovations.

Sunday was a day Spencer normally liked to just do nothing but after showing John and Massie Monaghan around his house the other night, he just couldn’t stop himself from finishing off the final stage of the bedroom he’d been working on. John and Massie’s compliments on his work an echo in Spencer’s mind telling him the job wasn’t quite finished. Spencer wouldn’t be able to relax if he didn’t.

The room’s walls were already lined with painter’s tape from the previous applications so it was just a matter of laying out drop sheets so Spencer didn’t spill any paint on the vanished floor that likewise need one more layer. All covered, Spencer used a roller to finish the walls before clearing away the sheets and coating the wood floors in a high gloss sealant. Looking at his handiwork from the bedroom door, Spencer was satisfied his farmhouse was finally complete.

Downstairs in the kitchen, Spencer made a sandwich with some smoked chicken and salad before taking the plate into his office to eat as he checked through his emails. With everything that had happened this week Spencer hadn’t checked his computer for four days. In what he considered retirement out to the country, Spencer had un-synced his work email account from his phone so as not to be bothered if he was away from his computer. He’d choose when people could get hold of him if they needed.

So it was that Spencer had missed the reply to his previous email to his old partner on Wednesday. Dennis Hedwall was the most senior of partners at Spencer’s Washington Lobbyist firm. It was him that had seen the potential in Spencer and brought him up through the ranks, quickly and with great financial reward. Spencer was shocked to read that after his mostly polite refusal to come and visit Dennis in D.C., that Dennis was bringing D.C. to visit Spencer. His old partner leaving instructions to meet him at the private airfield just outside Avonwick in the afternoon, around six, and to arrange two rooms at a local Bed and Breakfast under assumed names. It was typical D.C. bullshit that Spencer had been looking to avoid but still, Spencer was a little excited to see his old mentor.

With his two upstairs bedrooms now finished, Spencer didn’t see the point of booking the rooms at a B n’ B. Dennis and whoever he was travelling with could stay here for the night. It would give him a chance to reconnect with someone he considered a close friend better in a more homely atmosphere and give them more time too. Spencer would listen to what Dennis had come here to say and then politely refuse him again. This time in person. Spencer would just organise some bedroom furniture in town tomorrow. Another thing to add to his to-do list.

With the email in the back of his mind, Spencer took out his phone to give Danielle a call.

“Hi, Danielle. It’s Spencer,” he told her when she picked up.

“Hi, Spencer. Aren’t you meant to wait three days before you call a girl?” Danielle asked trying to sound light and playful.

“I could hang up and call you back on Tuesday if you like?” Spencer said playing along with her little game.

“I’d rather see you Tuesday if your free that night?”

“Ahh, I’m actually not. I’ve got an old work colleague from D.C. flying in to see me that night,” Spencer told her about his just-found-out plans. “How about Wednesday? I could ask Amy to stay at one of her friend’s houses.” Spencer wanted the house free for more of what Dani and he had done on their first night together.

“I’m meeting my brother that night sorry.” Danielle didn’t want it to get awkward between them trying to work out a match in their schedules. Spencer had surprised her with his spontaneous invite last time. She was sure he would surprise her again soon. “Hey, look, don’t worry about it for now. We’ll work out a time that’s good for both of us. Let just keep ourselves open and when it’s the right time, it will be. I had a really great time that night.”

Spencer was happy to hear Dani bring up the amazing sex they’d shared. “Yeah? You liked that?”

It was always good to have your ego stroked a little bit by a lady.

“You know I did Spencer. I can’t wait for you to fuck me again,” Dani told him getting breathy into the phone.

“Mmm that was just a warm-up. Next time will be even better,” Spencer likewise lowered his voice.

“DDDDAAAAAADDDDD!!”

Spencer heard Amy shouting from the other side of the house.

“Sorry, I’ve got to go. Amy’s calling.”

Danielle laughed. She could hear her calling from the other side of the phone too. “Go for it, Spencer. Let me know when you're ready for Round 2.”

Danielle and Spencer hung up. Spencer going into the kitchen to see what Amy had called him for. Amy was facing the tree line that led off from Spencer’s property and continued up to the Carter Trail. Amy thought she had seen a wolf at the edges of the forest. Spencer thought it was unlikely Amy would have seen that but instead might have seen a fox. Either way, the two of them watched the trees for a good while to see if it came back.

Monday morning.
