Chapter 7 by jef13123 jef13123

Anything else worth mentioning?

No, dawn comes swiftly, and loudly

Jacob and Tirsa both jolt awake, to the knocking on the driver side window. Looking over, they can see a man dressed in a tan uniform, with aviator shades and a wide brimmed hat. Groaning slightly, Jacob turns to the door and opens it. He deliberately moves slowly, knowing that this is an odd situation, and the presumed park ranger might be jumpy. The ranger walks over to Jacob, hands at his sides. "Well, what are you to doing out here? The park doesn't open for 3 more hours, and I don't see a camping permit anywhere on this vehicle."

Jacob breathes a quiet sigh of relief that the officer is so relaxed about this. "Sorry about that officer, we really weren't planning on staying. But, she broke her left leg yesterday, and neither of us had working phones to call for help, so we decided to wait here until someone came around that we could use to call an ambulance." Seeing the look of worry on the officer's face, Jacob hurries to explain a bit more, "It's just a simple fracture, and I made sure to make a proper splint. It's also why my shirt is torn."

Hearing the explanation, the officer relaxes slightly, but quickly moves to the trunk to check on Tirsa himself. Jacob follows the man, and sees him performing a basic medical check on Tirsa. The officer then steps away from the woman, and looks at Jacob. "Nicely done, especially with such improvised materials. It's almost as good as the one I could make with an actual emergency kit. Now, though, I'm gonna go grab my car and drive her to the hospital. Should take me about 35 minutes to be back."

With that said, the officer walks to a nearby ATV, and drives away. John turns to Tirsa, and quickly digs out his wallet. Flipping it open, he pulls out his driver's licence, and a few bills. He holds them out to Tirsa, while asking a question that he should have last night. "Real quick, I need to know if any of this is legit here."

Tirsa takes a quick look at the licence, before handing it back. The bills she takes a closer look at, and squints a few small details. "The licence is totally wrong. The obvious difference is that there's no fetish training marker, or place for it, and your missing a national ID number. The information that is there is in the wrong order. The restrictions should be just under the licence class. The bills are close enough that a bored cashier will probably accept them, but they won't pass any detailed scrutiny."

She hands them back to Jacob, and then sighs once more, "Well, I hate to say it, but I can't let you just walk away from me like this. You'll end up on the streets come night fall, and you've got no way to get a decent job. Look, once the ranger comes back, you're riding with me. Say that you never got a licence if he asks. Once we get to the hospital, you need to take a taxi to my apartment. I've got a roommate, and I'll call her once we're done talking to let her know that you're welcome to stay."

She digs her wallet out of her left pocket, with a slight wince, and hands him 30 dollars, which look very similar to the ones he had, but not quite. Jacob takes the money, slips it into his own pocket very carefully, and the tightly hugs Tirsa. A weight he didn't know he was carrying feels like it has been lifted off his shoulders.

"Thank you."

Glad to see that human decency is a thing here.
