Chapter 85 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Tell them the truth.

"Can I share a secret with you all?" you ask. Your feeling of anxiety rises.

Niki rubs her arm. "Secrets, huh? Only if you wanna."

The rest look to you with interest. You sit there, greeted only by the sound of rolling wheels over a coarse road, and the clopping of hooves. None of the guards are around you, nor the merchants. It's just you and the three girls.

"It's about where I'm from. I haven't been entirely truthful with you all. It isn't that I have amnesia, or I'm from a kingdom far away, or something like that. But I was scared that if I told you the truth, I'd lose all chances of having a party here. Even now, I'm a little scared."

"I did not realize so much was going on in your head, Mr. Warren," Amara says.

"Me neither, definitely," Niki adds.

"I did not mean it that way..."

You cross your arms. "You guys aren't making this easier for me."

"I trust you," Eva says. You look over to see a soft smile on the bunnyfolk's face. "You've stuck with us this long despite any problems we may have had."

"Thanks." You take a deep breath. "Well, I'm not from another kingdom per se. I'm actually not even from this world. I'm from Earth, a place without any magic, elves, or dwarves. It's just humans. We have our own kind of technology that in some ways is similar to magic, but yeah. Very different. That's why I was dressed strangely when we met. That was ordinary clothing from my world. Honestly, I have no idea how I got here. I don't know why I can understand and speak the same language as you all. I don't know why I can use a weapon like I do. My class... is completely unknown to me."

You look at the others and gauge their reactions. You can't tell if they're shocked by the truth, or are completely certain you've lost your mind.

"I was pretty scared when I first came here," you add. "But this whole world is a fantasy. It's like something we'd write about back home."

"That would explain your lack of any common knowledge," Eva says.

Niki ponders. "I just assumed you were stupid."

You aren't certain what else to add. You continue to glance around at the others--heart racing and mouth dry. Time grinds to a halt. You can feel them judging you, like their thoughts are daggers, jabbing at your body. In reality, only a brief moment passes, but it feels like an eternity.

"There's some crazy stuff in this world," says Eva. "Magic pulling someone from some strange, undocumented plane... That isn't impossible. I also don't see any reason you'd lie to us about that."

"Yeah. It isn't like you'd gain anything from that lie. And damn, I've seen some weird happenings on my travels, Kyle," Niki responds.

Amara places a finger against her chin. "Hmm. The history of elven magic is vast, though I have not heard of this happening before. That being said, I am no expert on magic, and it can do some outstanding things. This is not impossible at all, no. I wonder who we could speak to in order to learn more."

"There's some great mages out there," Eva explains. "But getting an audience with one would be pretty unlikely. We're kinda nobodies still."

Niki slaps you on the back. "Don't feel down, Kyle. I think you're pretty aware just how strange people can be. It just took longer to unravel your quirks. From another world, and a pervert."

"Oh I'm the pervert?" you snap back.

"You shouldn't be so mean to Niki," Eva says.

Niki gives her a thumbs-up. "Thanks for having my back!"

I thought we were having a moment, but I guess that's gone. Still, they didn't shrug me off. That's a huge weight off my chest.

"We should probably not go around telling people this," you suggest.

"I agree," Amara replies. "I will keep my lips sealed."

The truth is out at last. Though after that, Niki starts to appear saddened. Something is clearly bothering her.
