Get your first quest.

Niki smacks her hand against a grand board of papers with pins, causing the entire thing to shudder. People look over with concerned expressions. As you shift your gaze to where she's gesturing, you can see tons of written issues that need resolving. Each has a listed reward, a difficulty rating from one to ten, and some have a name from whom it's from. You're thankfully able to read the writing, even if you have no idea why.

"What about..." you mutter as you think.

Suddenly, Niki points at one near your head. "This one!"

Slay the Red Dragon
Difficulty Rating: 9
Reward: 5,000 GP

"Hell no!" you reply immediately. "Why would we do that? We're looking for something to test our abilities."

"A dragon would do that."

"A dragon would roast us alive, Niki. We're starting at the bottom. I'm not going to die the first day I'm here in this paradise!"

Eva and Amara look between each other, confused. "Paradise?" Eva asks. The other shrugs.

You continue to scan the board. Many are a distance away, sound too dangerous, or don't seem to be worth the reward. Though finally, one catches your eye as good enough. You grab the attention of your party, who are also looking over the papers, and you point a finger to the post in question. It has a crude sketch of a crab with its pincers in the air.

Giant River Crab Meat
Difficulty Rating: 2
Reward: 1 SP/lb of meat

You speak. "Seems like an easy way to make some coin, and the location isn't far from here. It says... at this time of the year, the giant river crabs migrate down the river, at about here, and their meat is a delicacy. They also tend to damage the river's ecosystem until they're gone. The fishing guild is willing to pay a silver per pound of meat able to be extracted. How much meat is in a giant crab?"

"Probably like, fifty pounds or so," Eva answers.

Your eyes light up with the promise of wealth. "Let's do it! We should be able to get there and back before the day is done too. We'll just grab some equipment, like sacks and stuff, and head out right away. I wonder how many we can catch."

"So who's paying?" Niki asks. "I've got... just over a gold in my pocket."

"I'm broke!" Eva exclaims with undeserved pride.

"Oh, uh. I don't have money either," you admit. It looks like you have no place to talk.

"What kind of things do we need?" Amara asks.

You think. "Some basic travelling attire for me, a sword for me, and I guess some sacks for the crab."

"So pretty much just stuff for yourself," Niki calls out. "How sad."

You're broke too, and I'm not the one that was banned from an inn.

Amara gives you a soft smile. "That is not so bad. Allow me to pay, as thanks for allowing me to join you."

She's so sweet, but at the same time, I feel bad for mooching...

It seems your thoughts are written on your face, as she speaks up again after a moment's pause. "Do not worry, Mr. Warren. I have little use for the coin otherwise, and we will make money from the quest, yes? It warms my heart to help others. I have a role model to live up to as well."
