Chapter 15
by carnivorous cow
What will Druuna do?
Get a room at Hans Petzer's Inn
Deciding that a warm meal and a decent room at a real inn would be nice, Druuna secured all her belongings and made out for the inn. After a short walk through the darkening woods Druuna came to what she decided must have been the inn.
The building appeared to have been a nice two story hunting lodge at one point, but it had fallen into sad disrepair since the Great Disaster. The roof was missing most of its tiles, and holes in the walls had been repaired with cheep boards and aluminum sheeting. A chain link fence topped with rusted barbed wire surrounded the whole building, ending in a cheaply made wooden gate. Druuna noticed a bell with a rope pull next to the door and pulled it a couple of times. She waited a few minutes until the door to the lodge opened and a well muscled man with a patch over his left eye came out. He walked down to the door and opened a slot in it. He grunted and said “Yeah? Something you need missy?”
Druuna smiled and responded “O-Oh yes. I’m a traveler and was wondering if I might be able to get a hot meal and room?”
The large man nodded and closed the slot in the door. Druuna heard the sound of several heavy locks being opened, and then the door swung open. The man behind it waved her in and closed the door behind her, making sure to close every lock before leading her into the lodge. Inside a rather obese man with greasy skin and thinning hair paused from counting bottle caps and looked up at her. Actually he really only looked up to her chest, Druuna noticed the man staring at her breasts and had to stop herself from shuddering. After enjoying the sights for a few seconds the large man finally said “Yeah? Something you need from me woman? I’m a busy man, so don’t stand there all day not speaking.”
Druuna nodded and replied “Of course. I was looking for a place to sleep for the night, and was wondering what it would cost to rent a room for the night.” The plump man continued ogling Druuna’s chest as he replied “Yeah sure, of course. The room will be eight caps. It’s normally twelve, but brea-business has been slow lately. The fee includes a hot meal.”
Druuna opened a pouch on her belt and handed over eight bottle caps; more than half of all the caps she had left to spend. The corpulent innkeeper took the money greedily and called his friend over to him. He whispered something to the man and then sent him to the kitchen. After a few minutes the muscular guard returned with a bowl of hot stew, a few slices of hard bred and a dented copper mug of water. Druuna thanked the innkeeper and left for her room.
Druuna found the room to be decent enough, though quite dirty. She found a somewhat clean bucket of water in the closet of the room and washed up her face and hands before approaching the food. The bread and water looked fine enough, and Druuna ate them. But the stew was….questionable. It was the normal brownish-green that any healthy stew should have, but it seemed to Druuna that there was an unsettling bluish tint to the food that made her question it. She thought that it would be best to avoid eating it, but Druuna had grown up in the waste land, and throwing away food just because of taste was not something she felt was right.
Does Druuna eat the stew?
