Chapter 32 by takacube takacube

What's next?

Running into someone new

Arron stepped off the elevator and took a deep breath before he turned and headed in the direction towards the casino. There was time to kill and he felt that he might as well take a look around (he wasn't sure if the job offer was really his to take or not but the idea was nice to hear). Still, as he stepped through the doors and onto the casino floor, he couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the sheer size and complexity of the area. He had been in Macau for a business trip once, that was the Las Vegas of Asia, but here, in the middle of nowhere, sat a casino floor that rivaled even the glamour of China's sudden wealthy players.

He walked slowly past a row of tables where dealers were busily plying their trade in various forms of Pai Gow, a few other tables had decent limit blackjack. Off further still was a row of craps tables, one of which was crowded three deep as an older man seemed to be very hot with his hand and the row of chips in front of him told Arron that he may have a golden arm too. For a little before noon on a weekday, the place was fairly packed too.

He continued to walk the floor and eventually made it to the hotel portion where there was an ornate fountain surrounded by marbled floors, a stark contrast to the lush casino floor, but everything seemingly fit perfectly. The uniforms of the hotel staff were neat, pressed, and orderly though, from an artistic standpoint, perhaps the only failure that he could see. The men were a bit stiff while the women's uniforms were...how should he put it...not tastefully alluring. It was function over form to be sure, a safe enough bet, but there could be more done.

Arron was about to turn around when he felt himself colliding into someone. With a shocked gasp, he felt himself slipping to the floor but warm, strong hands quickly wrapped around his waist and held him for a moment. "Oops! Sorry about that!"

Arron shook his head as he was returned back to his feet and he got a good look at the person he bumped into. The man smiled gently with a look of concern and Arron quickly mentioned he was okay before the man let go and helped steady himself a bit. "I'm sorry, I should've been more careful."

The man shook his head and quickly hung up the phone. "I should've been more careful. You sure you're okay?"

He nodded and returned the smile. "I'll be fine." A few more moments of polite chit chat and then Arron, looking over the man's shoulder, noticed an irritated young woman tapping her foot. "Looks like you're expected over there."

The man looked over his shoulder in the general direction Arron was looking and groaned. "My daughter, bet she thinks I'm hitting on you at the moment." Arron laughed a little and covered his mouth with his hand, a rather feminine thing to do and completely unnoticed by him. "I'm Darren by the way."

"Erin, though people call me Alison, my middle name's easier for some reason."

"Well, nice running into you, Alison. Maybe I'll see you later?"

"Sure. Enjoy your stay!" Arron watched the man turn and walk to his daughter who glared at him for a moment before turning and storming off down the corridor towards the golf course. Darren shook his head and followed and Arron laughed again. "Maybe you need a new daughter..."
