Chapter 18 by Vrakjurn Vrakjurn

What's next?

Several days later...

Ahsoka was looking through the debris she had dragged into the cave, searching for the motivator from her now demolished astromech. If she was going to be stranded for more than a year, she had to change the way she was going about things. First things first, she had to find out how the weather system worked here aside from the storms. Discovering how cold the planet got in winter was crucial. Agram had mentioned that they were in Spring so she was fairly certain that Summer was at least habitable.

“There you are...” she mumbled, dragging the R3 unit’s dome from the rubble. Her main unit thankfully had been on Coruscant at the temple when the battle broke out. So long as R7 was with Anakin, he’d be fine-absolutely pissed off, but fine. She struggled to pop the R3 unit’s motivator out by normal means (unscrewing two extremely small screws with whatever was nearby and being subsequently infuriated by repeated failure) before eventually telling Agram to step outside so she could access the ****. She slowly moved the infuriatingly tiny screws, pulling the motivator free. Annoying as it was, most droids used motivators. It would allow the droid to access its code, modifying it as needed, and essentially gifting it a semblance of free will. Not enough to rebel, but enough to make its job much easier. Agram plodded back into the cave, apparently curious as to what she was doing.

“What’s up Agram?” Ahsoka asked, still laser focused on the device as she rearranged the wires to be compatible with other types of droids.

“What exactly are you making?” He questioned, eyeing the makeshift workbench warily, “You seem to be intent on building something, but for the life of me I cannot tell what.”

“It’s an invention from back home called a probe droid. Essentially it Flies around and images the planet. It sends the pictures to this.” She responded, holding up her datapad. “Basically, when I finish this, we’ll have a map to the rest of the planet.”

“What a fascinating item...” Agram thought aloud. “Can it go underground?”

Ahsoka stopped and turned to the cat. “Underground?”

“Most of the caves on the planet don’t just stop at the surface. Most are several chambers deep, but some get to the size of those “cities” you’ve shown me.”

“No but...hmm...” Ahsoka turned back and continued to put Anakin’s teachings to use. “I could change the database to include taking soil samples.”

Agram began to walk off. “I’ll leave you to it. I’m off to hunt.”

“GET ANOTHER LONGSNOUT, WE’RE SHORT!” She called, finishing up the final touches on the makeshift probe. All in all, it looked more like a scrap metal basketball, scrap metal sticking out wildly in several directions. It flew with a small repulsorlift taken from her communicator. This unfortunately also meant her shipboard communicator was totaled. As she walked outside, she idly wondered what to name the droid.

“Let’s see... well it flies...it’s black...Ebon Hawk? No, too dark...hmmm...” she snapped “Got it! EY-3.”

Powering on the droid, she gave it’s designation and mission, releasing it into the atmosphere. Seeing as it wasn’t edible and didn’t look much like anything to be concerned with, the Fell Beast flying overhead didn’t seem at all bothered by it as it closed in on the cave.

WAIT, THE WHAT?
