I told her that I hadn't broken free out of respect. I didn't want to ruin her wonderful meal.

"Sounds to me like you're just a masochist, Player. Respectful is one thing, but you're coated in syrup and powdered sugar now, Stupid..."

In a jiffy, Lambda had released me from that prison. I toweled myself off while explaining that yes, indeed, I would face whatever challenge she thought appropriate.

"Are you suuure? Beatrice is one of my pawns right now, you know? I can order Beatrice to come here and who knows what she'll do to you?"

I knew very well what she might do to me. I'd read countless reports of the Rokkenjima murders, after all. I couldn't be here, with Lambda, without having accepted the fantasy elements of that story for their truth. Still, I couldn't back down. I had faith in my Pink Trigger's power.

"If you're sure..." she murmured, then looked around the room while pressing one finger delicately to her lower lip, as though trying to decide who to bring, or otherwise looking for inspiration. "Okay! I'm gonna give you an extra special treat! You can face off against Baal Berith, a super-powerful ultra-demon that I've hidden away from Bern and Beato all this time! Pretty cool, huh? I'll summon an OC for you to challenge in this little fanfic of yours! Hey, is that okay with you, Player? Aren't readers gonna be kinda pissed if we go off script like that? I knew that no such demon as "Baal Berith" had ever been mentioned in the Rokkenjima texts, nor even in the knowledge granted to me by the witch who sponsored me. It could be difficult to defeat a new, previously unknown demon... But I'll return here as many times as it takes to overcome them.
