Tuck and roll, and just keep running

Jessica smiled as her tom-boyish younger days served her well and she tucked into a roll as she passed the corner of the carriage. Difficult in her skirt, but she managed it nonetheless. She heard a load grunt of effort as overhead the thing lunged. Risking a look over her shoulder, she saw it was some hunched inhumanly large brute of a thing wearing bandages and overalls and holding an entire brick in its large hand. It face looked swollen and dumb. Whatever it was, Jessica did't want anything to do with it.

Continuing her momentum, Jessica turned forward and ran across the balcony. She heard the thing groan at some distance behind her, but she didn't hear the thing's large body pound the cobblestone.
Rounding a corner, Jessica felt her breath come short, risking another peek back, the thing wasn't in sight. She only had a staircase and short walk, and she'd reach the alley her home was on. Barely after curfew too. She could see a figure on the stairwell now, though they hadn't seemed to notice her, it seemed of normal size and of normal posture. Plus it had a torch, beasts couldn't possibly use torches, right?
As she began to climb the stairs, the figure flinched, only noticing her then. She saw then the figure also carried an axe in the other hand, but looked very human. At least by this cities standards.

"Oi, what you doing out this late lass?" The man inquired, annoyance obvious in his voice.
