You've apparently stumbled into someone's wedding reception, and nobody has noticed. Your clothes have been magically changed to look more appropriate and Selas has made herself invisible to everyone else, except for making sudden appearances here and there, just to tempt the other men. Taking a glass of champagne, you skirt around the main bulk of bodies, hoping that no one outs you and makes a fuss. Finding an empty seat, you drop into it and sigh. A middle aged woman, with short brown hair, a pearl necklace and refined purple dress looks up at you and says: "Bride or groom?"

You blink at her in confusion. "I'm sorry?"

"I don't recognize you. So are you a friend of the bride or a friend of the groom?"

"Neither, to be honest," you reply, telling her the truth. "I'm a plus one, so I don't actually know anyone here. My date has completely disappeared and I'd rather not be in anyone's way. And uh, I hate to ask, but who are the happy couple?"

The woman raises an eyebrow at you, but after looking into the sheer mass of humans under this tent, she shrugs and clinks your glass. Matilda, as you come to know, is also another plus one, and this is her husband's cousin's nephew's former college roommate's sister's wedding. After you work out exactly how she's completely unrelated to the bride, you ask her why she's here. She explains that, basically, she and her husband were invited, because the groom works for the sister company of her husband's business and thought it would be a good idea to invite the big boss. And she was equally surprised then, as you are now, when her husband said they were going.

Completely flabbergasted, you raise your glass and toast her to your mutual confusion. Matilda chuckles loudly and drinks as well. The two of you spend a few minutes airing complaints about social events and attending them for the sake of attending. But this peace can only last so long.
