Chapter 80 by zenxraider zenxraider

What's next?

It's a Monday, and Monday means work

For the first time ever in your young life, you genuinely felt excited for a Monday morning. Not that you had a boring weekend, far from it, but today was the day that the literal and figurative wheels on the train would start turning. In the show, this was the day First Year teams would begin their workstay missions out in the Kingdom and its surrounding territories. In simpler terms, this was the start of the Mountain Glenn arc for Team RWBY. Dressing yourself in appropriate clothing for a field assignment out in the Grimm infested wilds, you affix your katars in their rightful place upon your wrists and ponder the numerous changes you've made to the continuity since your arrival, barring your claiming of certain girls and their pregnancies of course.

Taking Emerald on as your partner, convincing Torchwick to abandon Cinder, confronting Cinder at the CCT tower, and even being accomplice to the **** of Tyrian Callows would inevitably have repercussions on the timeline. Mountain Glenn you felt would become one of those changes. Torchwick was gone, but would that mean the White Fang would carry on with their train bomb? Would they attempt a different form of attack? Would they even abandon the campaign altogether? You were eager to see for yourself, as well as get some personal time with the whole of Team RWBY. Flipping through the mission board on your scroll, you were pleased to find Ozpin remained true to his word and gave you special permissions to pick whichever mission you desired to lead; you swiped right on the Mountain Glenn expedition. Pocketing your scroll, you then turn your attention to your two teammates, Emerald and Neo, who were also dressed and geared up to join you. Only, this wouldn't be the case as you had something more important that needed doing.

"Alright girls. Consider this your first test of teamwork together," you say with a smile. "You'll both be taking an airship to Mistral for me."

Emerald's eyes balked at the suggestion and even Neo wore an uncharacteristic expression of unease.

"You're sending us away? Why?" your Little Gem questioned anxiously.

"You'll be performing a mission for me, something vital to our fight against Salem. A woman of great importance operates in Mistral and its surrounding territories across Anima; a formidable Huntress and outlaw boss by the name of Raven Branwen. Once a member of Ozpin's inner circle, she has since abandoned her cause in favor of leading her little tribe of bandits on an anarchistic joyride across the continent, a sort of **** endeavor to take her mind off the perceived futility of fighting Salem. Normally this wouldn't be very high on our priority list, but she possess a great power coveted by both Cinder and Salem, and even Ozpin. It's essential that we get to her first before they do. Therefor, your mission is to rally her to our cause instead."

"Raven... strong," came Neo's simple, limited input, a concern well founded.

"Which is why you'll be going together. She is what's known as the successor to the Seasonal Maiden of Spring, an ancient power passed down through generations that grants the bearer incredible control and mastery over nature and the elements. Given her status as a bandit queen, displays of strength and cunning will be your most likely method of gaining her trust, but don't underestimate her ability. You'll need the help of each other to best her."

"I don't..." started Emerald before catching herself. "I understand, Master. I'll do as you command."

"Good," you say approvingly at her obedience. "There's no pressure for time as of now so feel free to make the most of the trip, have fun with it even, but don't sit on your hands either. When word of Tyrian's **** reaches Salem's ears, she'll have **** but to take a vested interest in stopping us. You'll have access to all the Lien you need through this personal card. It's linked to an account worth millions."

You hold out a small, platinum card whose account you had created the day before, a card that Neo was quick to snatch up much to Emerald's chagrin. The diminutive woman simply sticks her tongue out mockingly at your Little Gem. Huffing indignantly, Emerald steps around her unfortunate partner in this endeavor and pulls you into a sensual kiss. You return the kiss with equal fervor, granting her this small victory over the smug ice cream girl. Giving your gem a playful squeeze on the rear, you break the kiss and then turn to Neo who, in an amusing display to one-up her rival for you affections, jumps up into your arms and wraps her legs around your waist, claiming your lips several times and peppering you with affectionate kisses that only a girl as small as her could pull off.

"Ok ok, that's enough stalling for time," you chuckle as you give Neo similar gropes. "We have work to do, now go on you two. Get to it."

Finally free of the competitive affections of your girls, you make your way out of the dorms and head directly to the landing pads where numerous Bullhead aircraft were parked and waiting. The craft for your mission was parked at pad three and already had a pilot waiting in the cockpit, an Atlesian soldier with slightly tan skin and age lines beneath his helmet. Crossing your arms, you lean back against the fuselage of the craft and wait as the students begin filing out of the main atrium.

It doesn't take long for you to pick out amongst the crowd teams RWBY and JNPR talking animatedly with each other about their missions, Nora in particular throwing a fit that RWBY was going into abandoned territory outside of the Kingdom despite her own team being assigned guard duty to a small settlement south of the Wall. Catching Pyrrha's eye, you flash a smirk and wink to your secret wife, wishing her safety and fun on her assignment, gestures she furtively returns before leaving for her bullhead. It was then that a very perplexed Team RWBY arrived to greet you.

"Wait a minute," began Weiss. "You're the Huntsman we're supposed to be shadowing? But you're just one year ahead of us! How is that possible?"

"Oh c'mon Weiss, it's not that bad," intervenes Yang. "Michael is stupid strong. If anything, this just means we won't have to be as careful!"

"True as that might be, I still have questions," Blake states calmly.

"Me too!" Ruby chimes in as well, her overly large backpack tipping her slightly off balance.

"Simply put, Professor Ozpin knows of our little vigilante efforts in town," you explain, smiling at the sudden cloud of fear passing over the girls. "No you won't be disciplined for it. Officially, nobody knows your involvement. However, he has taken personal notice of my own efforts and decided it was time I led a team of my own. As of now, you're officially under my supervision. That being said, I won't be taking over leadership of your group."

You glance pointedly at Ruby to assuage any hidden idea of being replaced.

"Rather, I'll be operating much like a teacher would by providing guidance, mentorship, and even grading you on your performance. Despite the importance of this mission, it's still a field assignment counting towards your eventual graduation. Expect a heavy Grimm presence and expect me to not interfere unless absolutely necessary, but I have enough faith and confidence in all of your abilities to get the job done. Now, any questions before we head out?"

You're met with silence and fiery determination, Beacon's star team possessing a burning desire to prove themselves to you in the heat of battle. Their combined energy made you grin. Oh this was going to be fun. Rapping the hull to signal the pilot to fire up the engines, you board the craft and address your charges over the steady roar of a VTOL on standby.

"Perfect! Now look alive ladies! We're hunting big game today!"

And so begins your first mission!
