There was a literal world of possibilities in front of him, but he wasn’t ready to announce his presence just yet. He was still too weak, too inexperienced. He needed time to grow and consolidate power. That meant going back to what he knew: an out of the way, defensible location. His cave.

The orc was hyper alert as he sneaked back towards his long time home. Every twig snap was a possible threat. Every bird call an ambush. Hide. Watch. Carry on. Even though he had gotten an early start from the goblins, it still took him until the middle of the afternoon to make it back to his cave.

He pulled the strange crystal from his inventory, examining its strange smooth structure, unsure exactly how to proceed. When in doubt, tap.

“Fu-uck..”

The orc stared in horror. What kind of sick joke was this? Somehow, somewhere, something was having a laugh at his expense. He resolved himself to find and kill it. A new pop up suddenly filled his vision.

A name? The orc had never had a name. He had never needed one. He was just himself. This was a different kind of once in a lifetime opportunity. He could choose the darkest, evilest name. Something to make his enemies’ blood run cold.

He thought of the bizarre adventurer whose defeat had given him this chance. How original and inspired did that lunatic believe his name was when he chose it. Perhaps a different path then.

For what did the orc truly aspire? What were his dreams again now that he actually had a chance, a slim chance, of making them real. Power? Of course. Women? Obviously. Treasure? It would be nice. Everything? There we are.

He was greedy after all. He wanted it all. A name came to mind. It meant Master in an old tongue but also carried with it a darker connotation. The orc wasn’t sure even how he knew it. He just felt like it was right somehow.

Again the orc pressed accept and... nothing happened. Or at least his surrounding didn’t seem to change. He quickly checked his inventory and realized the listed items had vanished. With a hasty wave he changed over to his character sheet.

Below the description were more words, skill trees, pages, entire books of things on which he could spend these new fame points. Of course as he quickly skimmed through them most were greyed out or simply question marks and cost an incalculable sum to unlock. The orc was overwhelmed by the possibilities. Scrolling back to the top he decided to go ahead and invest in the first ability. It was cheap enough, it would help him understand these new abilities better, and mostly because it locked off the other paths until it was chosen

He still had 171 fame, but rather than spend it all at once he decided it was more prudent to understand his new ‘dungeon’. Which in reality looked like the same tiny crevice in the side of the mountain it had always been.

Surely there had to be more to it than just this?! He stuck his head out of the uneven entrance, carefully surveying the outside of his cave and his surroundings. They were unchanged as well. Maybe he was missing something but he hadn’t seen anything like construction options in the new Fame menu, and his resources were also still missing. When in doubt... he gently tapped the hard rock protruding near the cracked entrance
