Later that night, Brooke tried to fall asleep on a sofa in Montana's apartment, only to find herself tossing and turning. Her eyes were closed yet her body for some strange reason refused to fall asleep.
Then finally her body did fall asleep but Brooke's problems did not end there. Instead she found herself standing in a church wearing a white wedding gown. The man who was to be her husband was shouting at her for some strange reason and no one seemed to be silencing him.
She turned toward her maid of honor for assistance and saw that her maid of honor was naked for some reason. Then she looked for her mother and saw that her mother too was naked. In fact, all the women in the church were naked except for her and a few young flower girls. Then Brooke saw her would-be husband waving a gun at her and demanding that she too undress.
Brooke started to reach for her back zipper to do just that when she heard a gun go off. And then suddenly --
Brooke woke up to see Montana staring at her with a strange expression on her face.
At first Brooke thought it might have been that she was naked. Then she looked down and realized that she still had her nightgown on. A nightgown that she had borrowed from Montana.
"Are you all right, Major Hottie?" asked Montana.
"Er, yes, I am," said Brooke. "I was just having a bad dream. I didn't mean to wake you up."
"Oh, you didn't wake me up," said Montana. "I like watching you sleep."
"Er, okay," said Brooke, not quite sure how to respond to that statement.
Brooke closed her eyes again and tried to sleep. This time she imagined Montana watching over her like a nurse looking after a sick child. Then she imagined Montana bending over her sleeping body and kissing her on the forehead. Then she imagined Montana kissing her on the cheek. And then she imagined Montana kissing her on --
Brooke opened her eyes again and saw that Montana had gone back to her bedroom. She didn't know whether to feel relieved or not.
So she closed her eyes again and tried not to think of Montana. Or weddings. Or dark-haired Latino guys in black leather.
Instead Brooke imagined herself running through the woods at some distant camp site. And for a while she was actually happy to be dreaming about doing something fun for a change. Until Brooke realized that she was not wearing any clothes in her dream.
