Chapter 139 by brevdravis brevdravis

Can I salvage this?

Yes, but nothing's painless.

"I feel... like..." I began again. "I don't know."

"You, don't know?" Carla asked. "Well, that's one that I didn't expect."

"News Flash, Carla. Lez Counts," I spat at her angrily. Wait... where had that... where had that come from? It felt almost like something someone had told me, but I couldn't remember.

"Ok, so... at least you didn't ask for a divorce." Kaila nodded. "So... uhm... I think you might have missed the announcement in all the chaos."

The announcement? My eyes lit on the small white plastic box on the table and the two lines on it.

"You... already were?" I asked incredulously.

"Yeah, Brent. I already AM. I just... I didn't want to tell you in case... I didn't want to get your hopes up again." Kaila sighed. "Last time... You drank an awful lot in Vegas... I don't blame you really. I should have been there."

"You were there..." I began, before I looked at Carla sharply, who spread her hands apologetically. "Oh... so that's why you didn't want to..."

"Nic Cage Vegas. Not Kidding Brent, I was getting a little worried. I mean, You'd drink, then pass out then wake up and check on me before... I don't know where you went." Carla sighed. "I don't... I mean, you never came back with lipstick on your collar or anything like that, and you always answered every text but..."

"I broke the high score on Star Wars 1983 at least thirty times." I shrugged.

"That little booth they had down in the arcade?" Carla laughed. "With the little handles? You were playing THAT all four days?"

"I... ran out of gambling money the first day, and it was one of the only ones I could get a good score on with one quarter." I shrugged. "I also beat Street Fighter Two a bunch of times. Half hour a quarter..."

"Seriously? That's ALL you did in Vegas?" Kaila laughed. "I was sure... well, I did check your bank balance, but... Yeah, it makes sense. You didn't take out any other money."

"So, you didn't trust me?" I pointed out.

"I... was hurting, Brent. You were hurting." Kaila sighed. "You'd just moved in, and... I saw you crying and I felt like... Like I'd hurt you so bad that I never wanted to do it again. So... I didn't tell you this time. Didn't want to tell you till I was sure."

"So... this getaway... this whole thing..." I began my question.

"I want our child, Brent. I do. I just didn't want to have... I didn't want to go through that again, and Carla was tired of looking."

"I am tired of looking," Carla sighed. "I... we planned on not telling you about me until... well, one of us was definitely pregnant. If it had been another Ectopic..." She trailed off with a sad look on her face.

"But we WERE going to tell you," Kaila nodded earnestly. "We were. I swear."

"I thought you didn't share boyfriends." I stated, the reality of what they were saying sinking in. Carla was actually... TRYING to get pregnant. The thought was an instant turn on. I had dreamed about it, and the fantasy of her sneaking into my bed one night had always been there, but... to be confronted with it, and to never know how many times she...

"We don't," Carla nodded. "But... I mean, the only other person I really wanted to sleep with recently was... being such a bitch that it was a turn off."

"Wait, Imogene?" I boggled at Carla. "You're kidding, right?"

"Nope. First time I saw her, I thought to myself, 'there's a girl that needs to get laid," Carla sighed. "And EVERY fucking time she came over she was trying to get it from YOU."

Well, I'm glad I didn't go see her then...
