Ruby's day

Today I woke like all the others, wrapped in my bright red cloak made by my grandmother. The first indication that today will not end the same as others is the silence that greeted me. Normally, I am woken to the music of the birds, the rythm of the insects, and the scratches of the rodents in the trees nearby. This morning however, it was total silence. I looked over to my window sill to see the birds still there just quietly waiting. This was also when I noticed that it was already in the late afternoon.

'What could cause nature to pause for almost an entire day?' I wondered. My answer came after the sun set and the moon rose. I had already done my duties to learn how to be a princess, so i was relieving the tension that had been building up since this crazy day began. Right before my climax, I was startled by a massive roar from a creature I had never heard before.

My ugly green dragon roared right back, but this time, I heard a little hesitation in his roar as though he was unsure if he could win this fight. At that moment, the battle was like none I had witnessed when knights had come to try and fail to win me previously. 'Good,' I thought, 'that dragon may be able to provide me with the color I love.'

Suddenly, as quickly as the battle began, it ended with the last dying roar from one of the beasts.
