A new enemy

You rode back to your hut much slower than when you had left. Night time had fell and many predators were surely lurking in the shadows looking for a meal. You’d have to be extra careful tonight , but at least there was a full moon out. The sound of crickets and trickling water was more than a little soothing. After such a tiring day your eyelids were heavy, your muscles were sore, and your head was cloudy.

Darkness eclipsed the moon for an instant and immediately you sprang wide awake. Something big enough to darken the sky and sway the massive trees overhead. Taking Evasive maneuvers you steered DoDo off the path to evade whatever was out there. You hoped this was all just a delusion cooked up from your tired state, but your hopes were dashed as another small eclipse came and went and the trees rustled violently up above. Whatever was out there had your scent.

As you came upon a clearing with a wide creek you were knocked off your trusty giant emu. DoDo jumped up a tree instinctually to avoid any predators. You tried to stagger to your feet as quickly as possible but you were exhausted and whatever was hunting you pinned you to the ground. You looked up at the relentless hunter and recoiled in horror. The relentless hunter was none other than a manticore. You’re fucked.
