Breakfast and an assignment

As the girls entered the dining hall, Sister Mary took them in charge, directing them to a table of their own. The food was simple but plentiful, and the girls found themselves hungrily devouring the fruits and bread provided. The meal was eaten largely in silence, the girls casting periodic nervous glances at their roommate, but making no mention of dreams in the night.

For her part Sister Mary was quiet and thoughtful, remembering her own dreams and watching the faces of the girls, wondering if they had received similar visions. From their nervousness, she suspected something had happened, although it was possible that it was just the onset of homesickness now that the initial surprise of finding themselves in a convent had worn off.

After the meal ended, and the Mother Superior led the sisters in prayer, Sister Mary tapped on the table to call the girls to attention.

"Before anything happens today, you all have chores to do. Belinda and Cassie, you will gather eggs from the chickens and feed them. Wanda and Elsa, you will get a basket and pick apples from the orchard. And Amber and Danni, you will feed the other animals. I will meet you in library when you are finished, and then we will move on with the day. On your way now, go!"
