Surprise Call

Ashley smiled as she looked at herself in the mirror. It had been a long time since she had felt confident enough to wear something as bold and revealing as her red lingerie. As she struck a pose, she thought of the man who had given her that confidence. The thought of being desired was a welcome change to the depression and anxiety her ex had put her through.

She snapped a photo of her figure in the mirror, before sending a text to Spencer. As she put her phone down, she set up the candles and lit them. Next, she wrote out the note for Spencer. Just as she put the pen down, her phone began to ring.

"Hello?" She answered.

"Hey dear." Ashley's mother said.

"Hey mom. How's it going?"

"Good dear. How about you?"

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"How's the new job going?"

"Pretty good. Yeah."

"You in the middle of something?"

"No, I'm just- I remembered I left something at work. It's fine." The nervous chuckle Ashley added didn't do her any favors.

"Well anyway, I was thinking of visiting this weekend, if that's okay?"

Past experience had taught Ashley that her mother won't take 'no' for an answer. "Sure. Not a problem."

"Good. So, have you been up to much?"

"Not really."

"How are your neighbors?"

"Nice. I mean everyone here's really nice." Right on cue, Spencer opened the door to Ashley's apartment.

"That's good to hear." Ashley's mother replied. "So what about work? Anything exciting happen?"

Ashley's eyes dart to Spencer as she put her finger on her mouth, to which Spencer nodded.

"You there dear?"

"Yeah speaking of neighbors, one's knocking on my door. I'll call you tomorrow."

"Sure dear. See you soon."

"Bye Mom."

Ashley hanged up and looked to Spencer, who said "You alright?"

"Yeah. Just a surprise call, that's all." Ashley shot up from her seat and strutted over to Spencer. "But we can talk about that later."

"Sounds good to me."

The two shared a kiss, before Ashley led Spencer to her bedroom.
