Chapter 9 by ThomasMoro ThomasMoro

Seriously? What happens next?

Anya the -- ahem -- Would-be Bunny Slayer

"What's the matter with Anya?" asked Buffy as she noticed Anya start to run toward her with a small pointed stick in her hand. "You'd think she's seen -- Hey, wait! Is she trying to stake me?"

Buffy leaped out of the way just in time to avoid Anya's first thrust with the stick but that did not prevent Anya from trying again.

And again.

And again.

"Stop leaping around, Mr. Bunny, and let me kill you," said Anya.

"How do you know it's a Mr. Bunny?" asked Willow.

"Because it's -- oh, wait -- my mistake," said Anya. "It's a girl rabbit."

I gotta get out of here, thought Buffy. Anya's trying to kill me and neither her nor Willow seem to be understanding a single word I say.

And with that, Buffy broke through the glass in the front living room window and leaped out into the night.

"Oh, no, Willow," said Anya. "The giant rabbit escaped."

"Well, isn't that what you wanted to it to do?" asked Willow.

"Heck, no," said Anya. "I wanted to kill it."

"Well, it's gone now," said Willow. "So good job, Anya. I'll be sure to tell Xander tomorrow how brave you were fighting off that vicious rabbit."

"Don't make fun of me, Willow," said Anya. "We both know that rabbit isn't gone for good."

"It isn't?" asked Willow.

"No, it isn't," said Anya. "But that's okay. I know what to do now."

"Forget about it and go to sleep?" asked Willow.

"No," said Anya, throwing down her stick and sitting down upon the living room floor. "I'm going to call for help."

"You mean you're actually going to call Giles this time?" asked Willow.

"No," said Anya with a note of exasperation. "I'm going to summon my old friend Halfrek."

"Er -- why?" asked Willow. "Is she an expert on getting rid of giant bunnies?"

"No, Willow," said Anya. "She's a vengeance demon."

This doesn't look good for Buffy. What do you suppose happens next?
