Dawn shows up

Just then Dawn Summers walked in though the still open front door and closed it behind her.

She took one look at the **** body of Joyce Summers and cried, "What happened to Mom?!"

"I'm right here, honey," said Joyce-in-Faith. "That was an imposter. I'm your real Mom."

"No, you aren't," said Dawn. "You're the imposter. Why are these men here?"

"We're here from the Watchers Council," said the leader of the men. "We're here to arrest Faith Lehane for being a rogue Slayer."

"Well, good," said Dawn. "She attacked my Mom. She deserves to be thrown in jail."

"Dawn, you don't understand," said Buffy. "Mom has been the victim of a body swap spell. Faith traded bodies with her and until we find a way to reverse the spell, we can't let these men take this woman you think is Faith anywhere. Otherwise, we'll never get Mom back."

"Likely story," said Dawn.

"But it is true," said Buffy.

Then Buffy turned to the trio of men. "Surely you have had enough experience with the supernatural to know I'm telling the truth."

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn, as one of your famous fellow Americans once said," said the leader of the trio. "I get paid to deliver a package, not question what is in it. Besides, you'd be surprised how often rogue slayers have tried to use the old 'that wasn't me, I was the victim of a body swap spell' as an alibi. After a while, you learn to ignore it."

"But it is true," said Buffy. "At least give me a chance to prove it."

"According to the reports we've received from Mr. Giles and Mr. Wyndam-Pryce, you were once friends with Miss Lehane, were you not?" asked the leader. "Do you seriously expect us to expect you to have an unbiased opinion about her?"

"Faith attacked my Mom!" cried Buffy. "Why in Hell would I bother defending her if I seriously thought that the woman who looks like Faith is actually Faith? Hell, if that fight had gone differently, I might be the one stuck in Faith's body."

"Angel did far worse and you stuck up for him," said Dawn.

"Not helping," said Buffy.

"He broke Miss Calendar's neck -- your friend Miss Calendar -- and you still couldn't find the guts to stake him like you should have," said Dawn. "I liked Miss Calendar. She was the only one apart from Mom and Giles who ever treated me like something other than some big blob of energy that somehow got turned into a little girl."

"So not the time," said Buffy.

"So I'm guessing you don't believe your sister's story either," said the leader of the trio to Dawn.

"No, I don't," said Dawn.

"Oh, Dawn," said Joyce-in-Faith.

"Don't 'oh, Dawn' me, Faith," said Dawn. "You've done enough damage."

"So I take it you don't intend to interfere when we take in the woman who your sister claims to be your mother?" the leader of the trio asked Dawn.

"Heck, no," said Dawn, as she leaned back against the living room wall and crossed her arms. "In fact, I intend to just stand here and watch."
