What Happens Next?

The Two of You Kind of Just....Stand There

You said it.

She said it.

Now neither of you has said anything in about five minutes as you, William Carpenter, and her, Daisy Ridley, just said 'I love you' for the very first time. Nothing around you matters. The world around you could be coming to an apocalyptic end and you wouldn't even bat an eyelash. This moment is perfection in your eyes.

"We've been standing here in silence for like five minutes." Daisy's sweet voice pulls you back into reality.

"Huh, didn't feel like five minutes." You comment as you look deeply into her eyes. The sadness and embarrassment that was there just a short time ago has been replaced by happiness and love.

You smile.

"What?" She asks smiling back at you.

"I just told Daisy Ridley I loved her and I didn't wake up." You reply. "That either means this is real, which is amazing. Or it means I'm dead and I'm in heaven. I think I'm happy regardless of which this is."

Daisy steps up and kisses you lovingly on the lips.

"Just because we said 'I love you', doesn't mean you get to become sappy Cowboy."

You and Daisy lay on your bed, the two of you enjoying your post-orgasmic bliss. She snuggles up against your arm, resting her head on your shoulder.

"Can I ask you something?" You ask before kissing the top of her head, the aroma of her shampoo filling your nostrils(strawberry, if you're wondering).

"Mm?" She responds.

"If you were so obsessed with finding something wrong with me, why go through my work computer and not my personal laptop?"

Daisy's body stiffens a bit and she raises her head. "What?"

"My personal laptop." You repeat. "You know? The one in the livingroom. If you wanted some 'dirt', that'd be the one I'd go to. The laptop in my office is strictly for business and is protected by military-grade encryption at Tony's insistence. All of the club's devices are. They're so heavily protected that you can't even get onto basic social media sites."

"Huh." She says, resting her head back onto your shoulder. "That explains so much. I thought the reason I couldn't find anything was that you were some sort of perfect being. It was seriously starting to both annoy and creep me out."

"I'm not perfect." You laugh. "Far from it actually."

Daisy sits up and looks at you. "Oh yeah? Prove it. Tell me something you think is a fault about yourself."

You sit up and rest against the headboard. "Well, first off, I obsess over little things. For instance, I can't write an email without going over it at least a dozen times to make sure I haven't misspelled a word or written a sentence that doesn't quite make sense. I tend to work too many hours, sleep too little and as you heard Ingrid say earlier, I sometimes forget to take care of myself. I was once hospitalized with pneumonia because I refused treatment and tried working through it. Passed out in my office and when I woke up, I had to be strapped to the hospital bed because I kept trying to leave so I could finish my work. I struggle in social situations."

"I call bullshit on that one." Daisy leans back beside you.

"I'm not bullshitting you." You smirk. "I have an absolutely terrible time trying to navigate social events or meeting people. I become very overwhelmed when around people I don't know. I also have a tendency to keep everyone around me at a distance, which is probably why I've never had a long-term relationship. I've built mental walls to keep people away from me."

You've never been this honest with anyone before. It feels good to finally let your guard down a bit but at the same time, you're more than aware that this opens up more possible questions.

"Are you doing that with me?" Daisy asks quietly.

There is one of those questions.

You think hard on what she's asked you. Have you?

"No, I don't think I have." You answer, slightly surprised and relieved. "It's weird, I think you're the first person I've never tried keeping at a distance. In fact, I think you're the only one I've ever tried letting in. That's probably why I wasn't angry that you went through my laptop."

Daisy smiles warmly as she looks deeply into your eyes. "I'm really sorry about that. I'm also happy that I'm the one you're allowing in. But most of all, I'm beyond relieved to finally know that you're just as messed up as everyone else Cowboy."

She laughs as you wrap your arms around her, pinning her to the headboard. You lock your lips to hers, embracing her passionately.

But before you can take this further, your phone starts ringing.

"I think I should get that." You say as you reluctantly pull your lips from Daisy.

"I think you should let it go to voicemail." Daisy almost growls as she pulls you back down.

The phone eventually stops ringing but almost immediately, it starts back up again.

"I have to answer it." You painfully pull away from Daisy. You grasp your phone and check the I.D. "Huh, it's the NYPD. Hello?.....Yes, this is William Carpenter....What?! When?!....Oh my God.....Yes.....Yes....I can be there shortly....Yes....Thank you."

The phone falls to drops from your grip as your hands shake uncontrollably. You fight back tears but your world has been rocked.

"William?" Daisy asks concerned. "William? What is it? What happened?"

"Um, Mr. Edwards died." You answer weakly.
