Chapter 2
by 11kestrels
Which scroll do you pick?
Blue
You take the blue scroll, and head off to your room. When you open the scroll, you see a map of the Great Urfama River. Your destination is The White Tower of Wizmar which is located at the confluence of the Urfama, Tarnetto, and Ardamore Rivers. To get there you must secure a raft or gain passage on a ship at the river town of San Gebbar. There is some sort of trouble at Wizmar you are being sent to investigate. All of this sounds quite easy until you realize you have to venture through the ancient forest of Faizabad, also known as The Forest of Wind, to reach San Gebbar.
Faizabad is home to many creatures. Some friendly, while others are not so friendly. There are giant spiders and centaurs, ghouls and vampires, werewolves and demons, and Orcs who serve the evil Necromancer. And you thought lions, and tigers, and bears were tough! It has also been said that the trees are alive, and that many have fallen to evil ways. On the brighter side, there are the Wood Elves and some other friendly inhabitants. If you get lost, you can always find them for help. That is, if you're not found by the evil forest inhabitants first. Especially the Necromancer. But there's really nothing to worry about as long as you don't stray from the Great Cabinas Highway that runs through the middle of the forest.
You gulp down the lump in your throat, and think to yourself, "Why couldn't I pick a different color scroll?"
In the end, you pack what you think you'll need for the journey. You have your throwing stars, a bow and a quiver of arrows, twin Katana blades you wear on your back, and a nice, sharp Samurai sword you won a few nights ago by beating some hot shot Shogun warrior at a saki drinking contest. Over all, you're armed to the teeth. You even have room left over for a few changes of clothes and some food without having to jump up and down on your backpack.
Before you leave, your Ninja master hands you a pouch with fifty gold pieces inside, which he figures will be more than enough for a raft or passage on a boat. That is, as long as you don't lose it. "If you lose the money, you will have to depend on your womanly wiles, grasshopper." You could never figure out why he calls you grasshopper.
Out the door you finally go, and down the road that goes ever on (but that's another story), and to whatever adventures awaits you.
It's a beautiful day as you walk along the Cabinas. The birds are chirping, and butterflies are flitting about in the open fields. Nothing but a sea of green lies to either side of you. There's only a few clouds dotting the azure blue sky, and you make a game out of guessing what shapes the clouds are taking on as the upper winds sweep them away.
Finally you arrive at the edge of Faizabad Forest. it's near dinner time, so you decide to stop and take in a meal. After dinner, you have a decision to make. Do you venture on in to the forest? Or do you camp outside of it for the night?
Camp or travel a bit more?
