Chapter 5 by JaneOfTheNight JaneOfTheNight

Do you succeed?

Now, that's a longer story.

The wealth you required was of an incredible amount, and unfortunately, often came at the expense of your studies.

The very idea of being a housewife disgusted you. Self-confidence was something you had in spades, at least when it came to your intellect and magical acumen, even if that didn't necessarily trickle down into matters of body, which you admittedly put very little thought into.

You were devoted to assuring that your life didn't go in the direction that your family sought out for you, however a much stronger devotion you had was to your studies, and that often came before the need to collect money. Your studies were time-sensitive and near-constant, and while you were managing to make some money on magical trinkets, odds, ends, and even some rather powerful gear, you weren't doing enough, and thus as the cut-off age of twenty-one became closer and closer, your ability to focus on your studies grew more and more difficult.

Then again, perhaps your focus was destined to be at least slightly split. At the age of eighteen, your grades were more than well respected enough to earn you entry into Keventhor Academy. An incredibly respected magical institute that made it's home in the city of Isen... well, perhaps more accurately, above. Built around one of the ancient, respected, and feared Towers Of High Sorcery, it's innate magical ability was used to raise a nearby piece of a mountain into the sky so that the Academy could remain separate from the city of Isen itself.

While this meant the air was generally cold thanks to the higher elevation and the winds of the north, it also meant that you were rather seperated from the non-magical ilk below, and while you were not pompous enough to see yourself above or better than anyone at all, it did mean you weren't likely to run into the sort of people your Father would be eager to pay off to chase you across the city between classes.

Finding your room proved a challenge on that first day, however. While the central area of the school was rather straight-forward, existing largely on the top of the floating magical isle, four towers and a main castle being seperated by a massive courtyard, the housing plaza's were located within the mountain itself, and thus could be seen as a veritable dungeon to those who were unfamiliar with it's layout.

Thus, you arrive extremely late on your first day, long after the sun has set, bags floating around your form and a sigh of relief heavy on your breath. You knew the apartments were co-ed, which was a first for you, so you were a bit nervous about what lay beyond the unassuming oak wood door...

Who is your new roommate?
