Chapter 9 by imphic imphic

Do you agree?

Accept the temporary exchange

You nod, take her hand, and shake it once. Kelpie hands you her book with her other hand fastidiously. She then turns around and reaches for yours. Despite the recent solemnity, you cannot resist giving her shapely booty a spank with her book.

Kelpie gives a surprised yelp and looks over her shoulder. It makes her look even more fetching and you exchange a mischievous grin as she pulls your book to herself.

“I should have made you promise not to attack with the journal,” she says in a breathy voice. “But fair enough.” She opens your book and starts reading. You mirror her.

The words on the first page have a familiar ring.

"Nature is governed by theory and laws. The planets are bound by gravity. Technology is driven by electromagnetism. Even matter itself to the quantum level. Existence depends on such principles. What if they were mutable? They are.

This is the Journal. Simply put the scope and write your laws. Any law you can think of will be applied to that area.

You can write General Laws and Special Laws. Space Time will enact General Laws to this galaxy unless larger is specified. Reality will even change to accommodate General Laws as you write them. On the other hand, Special Laws only go into effect once you've written them down. Areas will be much more localized, down to the molecular level if you wish.

Suggestion: write carefully. Many owners have been ended misusing the Journal."

You felt a chill over the parallelism, over the warning, and above all, this book’s power. The Rulebook would let you modify society. The Journal would let you end reality.

You look at Kelpie, who seems nonplussed by her reading. As you continue, you don’t see any trace of general laws. You think she had written special laws, but almost all were thoroughly erased. Whether they were failed experiments, successful experiments, or her just covering her tracks, you had no idea. There were three that were almost entirely clear.

“Special Law: For __________ coordinates, suspend gravity except for current Journal owner and Tristan.

Special Law: For nearest Armor, Secure, and Safeguard, Inc. suspend electromagnetism except for current Journal owner.

Special Law: For nearest cafe, suspend time except...”

Smack! Startled, you look up startled from the reading.

Kelpie had quietly moved away, apparently finished with your scant entries already. She had just given the statue-like Ruth a solid spanking and is walking in front of her. Kelpie pinches Ruth’s nipple while wearing an inquisitive expression.

“I hate to be hypocritical, but you’re quiet handsy,” you comment.

She titters and gives a final look at the Ruth who stood as still as a mountain. “I have my reasons,” she replies and moves to the counter.

You think on that and what you’ve read. A short-time later you finally ask, “What are they?”

“I don’t have too many questions… but if you answer mine I’ll reciprocate. You can go first. Maybe we’ll barter something else after,” her voice is hard for you to read, but the end seems coquettish. Kelpie was picking up doughnuts by the counter as you rank your questions. She offers you one, which you decline.
