Lightning

Standing on the field, you close your eyes and reach out to feel the elemental forces around you. They surrounded you. Flooded your senses. Immediately your attention is drawn to one in particular. An itchy feeling in the sky. You could see a static above you with your mind. It almost felt cold but at the same time hot. All the other sensations faded away and you began to pull the energy into your body, focusing it through your arms and into your charm. Suddenly you heard the loud crack of thunder followed by startled gasps from the students behind you. Two faint smells of both something burning and another crisp and clean. Opening your eyes you see trace amounts of smoke rising from the ground around you where the grass was smoldering.

"And that, students, is exactly why we spread out for this exercise." Professor Kiehn states. You turn to see the entire class stairing at you with surprise. "I believe you channeled an entire lightning bolt into that charm young man." The professor approaches you placing a hand on your shoulder. "Students with your level of aptitude usually put on quite the display but not even I have ever see something like that. Truly marvelous!" It felt like all the hairs on your body were standing up and that you had just woken up for the first time ever. "Why dont you take a seat over there while the rest of your classmates finish up." He indicated to a bench back on the paved area of the courtyard and you stumbled your way in its direction.

The remaining students each take their turns imbuing their charms with little attention from you. The professor guiding each of them through the process. You turned your charm over in your hands, examining its surface. A distinct two pronged lightning bolt now etched into it. Feeling like you have collected yourself, you rejoin your class by the range as the last three students are finishing their task.

"Good work today students." The professor cheers. "Unfortunately, we don't have time to utilize your new charms today but feel free to stop by the range during your free time. Just remember the rules we covered earlier. Now, gather around and I will return us to the classroom." As before, you all form a circle joining hands around professor Kiehn as he traces his hand throug the air. You can almost make out his movements before an instant later you are standing in his classroom once more. You have just enough time to gather your things before the bell rings and class is dismissed.
