Link and John

The two companions had been keeping a good pace for the most part of the day now, they were keeping an eye out for possible camping spot to rest before reaching the forest. Link gave a furtive glance toward John and was about to speak when the prince spoke up.

" I know, she's been following us since this morning." The strategist said revealing he was aware of Link worries.

" You think she regrets letting her meals go last night?" Asked the mage looking toward a dune trying to catch some movement.

" I doubt it. When we stopped for lunch you were a perfect target but she didn't take the bait." John had to smirk a little at the horrified look Link was giving him.

" You used me as bait?" Link didn't know what was more offensive, the fact that John had used him as bait or the fact that he only realized they were followed an hour ago. He prided himself on his knowledge of the wildlife and their behavior, for him to not be aware that a deathmaw was following them before John did was unacceptable for him.

" Well, you kinda played the role by yourself bending over the fire and wiggling your cute butt while making dinner." Blurted out John before he could stop himself, he intended it to be a joke but this sounded way to sexual for his taste. John couldn't believe he had just said that, although the little elf did had a cute butt.

" Hey! My butt is not cute, i ... it's manly and ... and ... ok, maybe not that manly but it's certainly NOT CUTE!" Link exclaimed while his face became red as a tomato. John took it as anger and immediately apologized before changing the subject.

" Look like our friend decided to join us." The incubus said looking behind them. When looked back the deathmaw was there, following them about 10 meters back without even trying to hide.

Before he could ask what they should do, Link saw John come to a stop and turn around to face the beast. At first, the elfin mage thought that his companion was intending to fight but he was surprised when he just sat down on the ground glaring at the unwanted follower.

" Humm ... what are you doing?" Link asked a little uneasy with his new friend basically inviting an attack.

" She clearly wants something, we need to find out what it is before we set up for the night. Even if we keep guard in turn, the threat of a deathmaw hounding us at night is not a very comforting thought." Said the prince while getting some water from his gourd.

Link was about to ask how they were going to do that when his body stiffened on instinct. The beast was only 3 meters away from them starring at John, Link was about to cast a spell when the deathmaw did something totally out of character. It just slumped on the ground and laid its head on her front legs, no sign of aggression whatsoever or that she felt threatened by the duo.

" So what do you want?" Asked John tilting his head to the side curious about the animal strange behavior.

" I'll be damn." Whispered Link when he saw the beast mirroring John head movement only on the opposite side. When John reached for the rabbit he had caught earlier and unhooked it from his backpack, the deathmaw ears shot up straight and she gave her jouls a heavy lick.

" You hungry?" John said before tossing the offering in front of the beast who immediately pounced on it and swallowed it almost in one go.

" You sure it's a good idea to feed it? You know it's not a stray dog right?" The elf commented.

" Sure could have fooled me." Answered John suddenly getting up. Link was sure the beast would see this as a threat and react violently but instead, she got up and came right at John's feet and started nudging at the side of his backpack with her nose. Link couldn't believe how John could stay calm with a deathmaw so close to him.

" Sorry sweetheart there is nothing left." John said casually and started to scratch the deathmaw ears.

" Yea ... of course ... just pet a deathmaw will you, it's not like venturing into the wildlands is dangerous enough by itself." Said the bewildered elf before adding in a low tone " Why do I always end up being friendly with the crazies."

"Ah come on Link, look at her she just wants to be friends ... I think." John said while scratching roughly under the jaw. When Link heard a growling sound coming from the beast he thought that John had pushed his luck too far, but he quickly realized that the beast was thoroughly enjoying John attention and leaning into his hand while giving long sloppy licks to his forearm.

" Fine, but you are feeding her and cleaning her box." Joked the elfin mage before jumping back when the animal snapped her jaw at him.

" Haha ... looks like she doesn't appreciate your humor, I guess we need a name?" Said the prince looking at the deathmaw green eyes.....

(note) So I have a couple of names but if anyone wanna chime in I'm open for suggestion, just leave a comment with your the name and maybe the reason you think it's a good name:)
