Chapter 18 by ThomasMoro ThomasMoro

There's nothing wrong with Buffy that clothing can't cure

It was the day of the big prom and the last thing Buffy Summers wanted to do was to accompany Willow to downtown Sunnydale -- especially since she was still naked. Even more irritating than the prospect of so many downtown folk gawking at her and her naked body was the fact that much of the time Willow and she would spend downtown would involve looking at dresses that Buffy could not possibly wear even if she wanted to.

Buffy kept telling herself that the curse was only temporary -- that some day the curse would be lifted and she could wear clothes again. But that day started to seem further and further away and there were some days when she woke up and literally could not remember what it felt like to wear clothes. She no longer automatically reached for a robe when she woke up in the morning. She no longer tried to pull down nonexistent underwear when she went to the restroom. She found herself even missing the days when bullies used to snap her bra because at least that was a reminder that she did once actually wear clothes.

If it wasn't for the clothing spell Willow had discovered, Buffy was quite sure that she would have gone mad. Not that she was ever as vain about her clothes as Cordelia was -- but still the prospect of not ever wearing anything for the rest of her life frightened her more than a nest full of vampires.

Thank God for the clothing spell. Granted, she was still naked underneath the imaginary clothing it conjured up but even the prospect of wearing imaginary clothes -- and those for only two hours -- seemed far better than the prospect of wearing none.

So it bothered her that Willow refused to use the clothing spell on her during her downtown trip.

"You're going to want to use the whole two hours at the prom," said Willow. "If I do it to you now, you're not going to be able to enjoy yourself at the prom tonight."

"So I spend one hour at the prom instead of two," said Buffy. "Surely it wouldn't hurt to use one hour now and the next hour later."

"The spell doesn't work like that," said Willow. "I can either cast it for two hours at a time or I can't cast it at all. And if I cast it now, you won't be able to wear the illusion of clothes when you go to the prom tonight."

"Okay, Willow," said Buffy. "You win. But I still say it would have been nice if -- What's that?"

"What's what?" asked Willow.

"Somebody's screaming," said Buffy. "And it's coming around this corner."

"Hurry, Buffy," said Willow. "Somebody's obviously in trouble."

Buffy ran around the corner just in time to see a blonde girl her age being attacked by a dark-haired, fanged creature that looked like -- Wait! Was that a rabbit?

The fanged creature bared its fangs -- heh, thought Buffy, I used the word "bared" -- at Buffy and flew away. Fortunately the blonde girl it had attacked was unharmed though her dress and the dress she had been carrying had been severely damaged.

Then the girl looked up and Buffy realized that she had a very familiar face.

"Well, this is awkward," said the girl Buffy had known as Anya Emerson.
