Chapter 12 by bopoznuvt bopoznuvt

Who do you find in the temple?

A pair of meddlesome adventurers.

With no time left to clean up your mess, you already see the glow of the torchlight approaching from the west hall. Had Beatrice failed to notice someone living in the temple? Or perhaps there was another way out of this wretched place after all. Wiping the slime from your hand, you scoop up your grimoire and scuttle into the shadows. This really was not your expertise, but you manage to avoid making too much noise. Ducking behind a corner, you peer around the edge of the stone wall. Muddled voices carry, and judging by their pitch, they sound human enough. After a moment they come into view. Two figures approach. A woman wielding a longsword and wearing a breastplate. Likely some sort of warrior. Behind her walks a man carrying a glowing mace with a book in his other hand. You surmise by the look of his elegant robes that he is a priest from one of the local churches. Did these fools think that the two of them could plunder the ruins of a temple of Dagon? Or an even more amusing notion: did they think they could cleanse it? The second thought gives you pause. A cleric could very well be trouble if they discover what you've done to Rosaria. You duck back behind the corner and close your eyes; you needed to think, and think fast.

You do have a way with words, so would be possible to deceive them, but clerics have a knack for sniffing out cultists, and you'd be helpless if they discover your true intentions. If charisma is of no use, you do still have your spells. However, clerics also possess strong minds trained to resist your simple Charm spells. Attacking them, even with magic, would be foolish. You open your eyes with a devious smirk. Peering once more around the corner, you see the pair of hapless fools have halved the distance between you. From here you can make out her short, platinum, bobbed hair and vibrant green eyes. Her build is not quite as hulking as Beatrice, and you suspect she wins with skill rather than brute ****. Her companion is much less impressive. A balding man with salt-and-pepper hair, his robes do little to hide his portly frame. Likely a life of comfort and decadence for him. However, you still needed to decide on a plan and they would be upon you at any the moment. What to do, what to do...

How do you handle the adventurers?
