Glory vs. Witch, Round I

Buffy had no idea who the woman with the purse was but she was glad to see someone finally taking her side for once instead of ignoring the whole situation like the other people in the club.

Of course, she might have been less glad if she had been close enough to see the woman's trembling fingers and restless feet. As it was, the woman seemed to be on the verge of panic; nevertheless, she stood her ground.

Glory sneered at the woman with the purse and asked," Who the hell are you, anyway?"

"I'm Amy Madison," said the woman with the purse. "The daughter of Catherine Madison the witch."

"And that is supposed to mean something to me?" asked Glory. "After all, I'm a god. I don't know about your world, but in mine, gods tend to worry about witches to the same extent that eagles worry about flies."

"You don't understand," said Amy. "My mother was one of the most powerful witches that ever lived. And I inherited her abilities."

"If your mother was such a badass, why isn't she here now, Mama's Girl?" asked Glory. "Why does she need you to fight her battles?"

Amy stayed silent.

Then the penny dropped.

"Oh, I get it," said Glory. "Your mommy dearest is no longer in the land of the living. What happened to her? Was she stoned? Hanged? Pressed to ****? Drowned? Set on fire?"

Amy mumbled something.

"What was that?" asked Glory.

"I said she was a victim of a spell," said Amy in a louder voice.

"The victim of a spell?" asked Glory. "Whose spell? If she was such a powerful witch, then how could she -- oh, I get it. She was a victim of one of her own spells. That explains a lot. So how did she manage that? Somehow I doubt she was dumb enough to deliberately curse herself. And why do you keep looking at your friend Buffy?"

Again Glory had an epiphany.

"So it was Buffy that tricked your mom into killing herself," said Glory. "And yet you call her your friend. And worse yet, you defend her. Back on my home world, people used to make blood sacrifices to me so that I would destroy the people who killed their kinfolk. You, however, do the exact opposite. Anything else you're not telling me, Mama's Girl?"

"Please leave now before I hurt you," said Amy.

Glory laughed. "Oh, please feel free to do your worst, Mama's Girl. Something tells me I'm not going to be the one who gets hurt."

Amy started chanting the words to her mother's most powerful attack spell. But before she could finish it, Glory moved forward at lightning-swift speed and punched her in the stomach.

"Sure you want to finish that spell?" asked Glory.

She hit Amy again and Amy just collapsed. She tried to think of a spell -- any spell -- but her mind went blank. Glory just stood over her, waiting for her to regain her breath.

When Amy did not get up after five minutes, Glory muttered, "You're pathetic."

Glory started to turn, then turned back.

She smiled at Amy.

"You're the one who put the spell on Buffy," Glory said with a grin. "That's why you're doing all this. Not out of nobility but out of guilt. In that case, it behooves me to remove the spell from your friend -- preferably in the most painful way possible."

"No," said Amy.

But Glory had already turned her back on her and was walking toward Buffy. Who had no idea what Glory was talking about but sensed that it was not anything good.
