Chapter 10

Does Jessica continue to follow?
She feels she has
Jessica was in too deep. She was a fool for expressing her curiosity. There was no way for her to back out now.
Even if she knew the way back that they came from, she would only be armed with one bottle and lighter. While Jessica could be light-footed and discreet at times, she doubted she would be able to make it through the back alleys from which they came without any trouble. Her aunt would have to make do. She would be alright for one night (by the blood, I may be out with this hunter all night, she thought), and she had enough food, water, and blankets that Jessica had left to survive for the next three days without her if need be. No, her aunt would be fine. Jessica could only concern herself with her own well being tonight. Even though her aunt would worry sick, she would be back tomorrow morning and would make up for it with her then.
Jessica could not turn back now.
The hunter turned to face her and leaned in close, his hand still gripping her upper arm.
"The clinic will help start your journey towards answers. But any form of truth requires a trial. Let's see what potential you can truly hold."
The hunter motions straight down off the edge, and only now does Jessica notice that underneath the shoddy railing is the start of a ladder. A long ladder, all the way down to the street level and the gates of the building the hunter called the clinic. And there, at the base of the ladder, patrolling backwards and forwards along the street, seem to be three large, beastly men. In their hands they held a variety of torches, shields, or axes.
Jessica recoiled back from her vertigo.
Is the hunter really suggesting what she thinks he is?
