Stand and fight

You kept expecting to see more drones swarm over the horizon. You ordered your troops to halt and take aim. Looking around for more of them. When they didn't appear and these ones just kept coming you were a bit bemused. These drones weren't even a threat. Just as they came into range you gave the order.

"Open fire!"

You almost felt bad for the drones. They managed to get off one shot out of the whole group and it harmlessly bounced off one of your heavies' armor. Then the platoon had opened fire. To say it was a slaughter was an understatement and even in her armor, Vos looked embarrassed for having been chased. Your engineer went out and fixed it up before you went over to collect the pieces of the downed drones. There might be something useful.

"Sorry LT the grunts did their jobs a bit too well." The engineer said with a shrug, tossing aside part of a drone. "Not even the 'special' equipment survived. The metal shouldn't be too heavy though so I'll bring it along in case I need it for repairs."

"Got it. Platoon! Eyes on the sky and move out!" You ordered, Vos and her scouts moving forward once more to take the lead. The caution wasn't necessary however and you found another small wood to rest in for a short time to plan your next move.

You gathered your sergeants.

"This time our options are a bit spicier. We've got another savanna but we've seen signs that something has been moving out there. Could just be local wildlife but it could just as easily be people. It's not the most direct route either. The only thing it has going for it is we may be able to scavenge some equipment if we find a fight."

"The most direct route takes us into some forested hills. We can't see through them very easily but we also couldn't be seen. Considering our experience with the drones it may be a good idea to lay low for a little bit."

"The last option is over a river and through-"

"Let me guess. The woods?" Sierra asked

"The plains actually. Sort of like what we just went through but these ones have a bit more brush. Again we'd be exposed but given our recent experience, I'm less worried about that than I would have been."
