"River" talks to the Doctor

"Professor River Song, you say?" asked the Doctor, "I've never heard that name before."

"You will, Doctor, you will," said the woman who called herself Professor River Song. "I'm quite famous in archaeological circles."

"Oh, so you're an archaeologist," said the Doctor. " That explains a lot. You see, I -- "

"Point and laugh at archaeologists," said "River". "Yes. I know. I've heard that about you. Granted, I can just as easily point and laugh at time travelers like you."

"How do you know I'm a time traveler?"asked the Doctor. "Did Ms. Oswald tell you?"

"No, she didn't,"said "River". "I can tell from the piece of obviously alien technology you have in your hand. Not to mention your having a naked **** girl in the 21st century."

"Hey!" said Martha. "I'm not a ****!"

"Of course you're not," said "River" with a condescending tone. "Perhaps it would be more accurate to describe you as a pet. Like poor Clara here."

"Er, I'm not a pet," said Clara but the other three people in the basement ignored her.

"I'm not a pet either," said Martha. "I'm a companion. I follow the Doctor of my own free will and I try to help him with his search for er -- stuff. In return, I hope to get help from him for my condition."

"In other words, you're a service animal," said "River".

"I am not an animal," said Martha. "I am a human being."

"After seeing some of the things I've seen humans do on this planet, I wouldn't brag about that last part too much," said "River".

"I think we're getting off the subject a bit," said the Doctor. "Why are you two here?"

"Aren't you going to ask any more questions about why I'm naked?" asked Clara.

"Hush, Clara," said "River". "Grown-ups are talking. Anyway, Doctor, we came here because the ship we were in was pre-programmed to arrive at this location."

"You mean you're the ones who had been traveling in that Dalek ship?" asked the Doctor,

"Yes" said "River".

"Thank goodness," said the Doctor. "When I first saw it, I was afraid a Dalek had used it."

"A Dalek did use it," said "River". "It just landed in a different location and then got out."
