All good things . . .

For a few minutes you and Selina lie on top of the table next to each other talking about history, the art of jewelry and the Hyde Parure. Your date's knowledge and smart quick mind multiple her beauty greatly in your eyes.

All of sudden Selina looks up. “Damn” she mutters.

“What?” You ask a bit concerned.

“The cops are here.” She sighs. “They always ruin everything.”

You listen and look around and do not sense anything for a few seconds until the distinct wail of sirens can be heard.

“I have to get back to work.” Selina says with a resigned tone, “I shouldn't be here when the boys in blue show up.”

Standing you face each other. “David,” Selina voice is heartfelt with a touch of melancholy. “You're a good man, no one has treated me like you have, thank you."

You step forward to take her in your arms but Selina moves away as flashing blue, red and white lights can now be clearly seen reflecting on the windows.

“Come on, let's get this over with, time is short.” Selina states.

There are million things you want to say to her, but you know the police will be her any minute. Leading her to the Crowley Necklace she asks your permission to pick it up, which you give.

Taking hold of the necklace with only her left hand, she quickly inspects every part of it with great agility as her finger tips dance across the necklace. There is no pleasure in her eyes, however, and all she says is, "Ugly thing."

“Crowley wasn't know for his artistic tastes." You try to support her thoughts. "He created this gaudy necklace supposedly with magic curses to protect the gem.”

Selina looks at you with a strange gaze that you have never seen before nor can read. After a moment, she offers you the necklace. “Here, take it, I'm done.”

As you take hold of the chain the clasp comes undone causing the broach to swing wildly down. You tried to grab it with your left hand, but it's still handcuffed to Selina's right, and she is too slow in reacting to assist. The broach tumbles to the floor causing the green gem to roll out.

“I'll get it.” Selina states and bends down, reaching out with her free left hand. Palming the gem she picks up the broach with her fingers. Immediately, she stands and produces the gem in between her middle and forefinger. Letting her bring up her cuffed right hand she puts the gem back in the broach and then slips it back on the necklace.

“There, nothing broken.” She says letting you take hold of the restored jewelry.

Taking two steps back, Selina moves away from you as you feel the handcuffs dangle from your left wrist, with the other loop now empty.

“Selina . . .” You go to speak as you hear men begin to rush up the emergency stairway.

She looks at you one last time and slips on her cowl and goggles and breaks into a run. Jumping on a table, and then some crates, she leaps up high as her whip uncoils. With a quick flash of leather, the whip wraps around a ceiling supporting beam and the Catwoman dashes through a small window in the vaulted ceiling and disappears into the night.

Looking down at the necklace you think the gem looks less vibrant in color then you remember. Reflecting back, you recall Selina's words, she promised she wouldn't steal “any jewelry.”

“You never said you wouldn't steal a gem.” You say out loud.

“Dr. Anderson are you okay?!”

You look up and see Director Dent with several police running towards you.

“Mother of God, David, what has happened to you?” Dent asks gravely concerned when she gets a good look at you.

When you don't answer a police lieutenant interjects,

“Doctor, was anything valuable stolen?”
