"Let's try to get through this," You say, heading for the hole in the thorn growth.

"Wait," Doe says. "It might be a trap!"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, it's so obvious that that's where whoever-took-the-sword went. so, anyone looking for the sword would automatically proceed in that direction. What if the interloper's waiting for us at the other end?"

"Why would he wait for us? What would he get from us? Sure, it might be a trap, if he's expecting company, but is he?"

"You know John, you make it so complicated!" Doe chirps.

"Remember, it was you who first suggested it might be a trap."

"I just didn't want you getting hurt, that's all."

You place your head through the hole and try to stare through the grayness inside. You hear the sound of something flowing. "I hear flowing water," you say to Doe. "I think I have a safer suggestion."
