Chapter 10

Where does Buffy go?
In search of a crowd
Buffy had no idea where she could find a safe place to hide but she did know one thing: if she got within the sight of a huge crowd of people, Faith was less likely to kill her. Unfortunately, the street she was running through was deserted.
She could go downtown -- but how likely was it that she would get there before Faith caught up? She had to find a crowd of people now. And preferably one that was not a crowd of vampires.
Then she heard the sound of organ music. She looked around and spied a nearby church which appeared to be holding services after dark -- a rarity in Sunnydale for obvious reasons, but nevertheless a welcome sight. There weren't likely to be many vampires inside a church. Nor was Faith likely to follow her there. Plus there appeared to be a big crowd of people -- human people -- inside.
Perfect, she thought.

Meanwhile, Willow had dashed back upstairs to retrieve her book of spells from Buffy's bedroom. As she tucked it under her arm, she silently prayed that she was not too late. That she would manage to catch up with Faith before she killed Buffy. Maybe she could even manage to find a spell that would change Buffy back to her original form. That would be nice.
She ran back downstairs and out the front door of Buffy's house, hoping that she was not yet too late.

Faith was just about to give up chasing the rabbit when suddenly she spied the same church Buffy had seen earlier.
Surely the rabbit would not go in there, she thought.
Then again, she thought, why wouldn't it?
She stroked the crossbow again and headed for the church's front entrance.

At that same moment inside the church, Buffy was standing at the back of the church, trying hard not to mind all the churchgoers who were staring at her.
What's the matter? she thought. Haven't you ever seen a rabbit before?
All the staring made her feel uneasy. But at least here she felt safe.
Surely nothing could harm me here? she thought.
Is Buffy right?
