Jamie stays with Mark's sister

“Let's go back to the car. I'll make a call and see what I can come up with,” Mark told Jamie.

Jamie just sniffed and nodded. Mark took him by the hand and they walked back to the car, not too far away from where the apartment was. Jamie was quiet, contemplating everything that he had lost. He felt tears forming in his eyes again but did his best to keep from bursting out crying again.

“I do have renter's insurance,” he reminded himself.

The money he would get would help later but he was still having a hard time finding the bright side in all of this.

When they reached Mark's car, Mark helped Jamie back into the passenger seat. He closed the door and made a phone call.

“Hi Mark, how did the date go?” asked a friendly female voice.

“It was going really well but as I was dropping her off at her apartment, we found out that it caught fire,” Mark explained.

“Her apartment?” she gasped.

“Yeah, Linda. She lost everything. Do you still need a roommate?” he asked, hopefully.

“Tell you what, I'll let her stay the next couple of days. We'll see if her and I can get along,” She told him.

“Thanks a bunch, Linda. You are the best,” he said excitedly.

“You better remember that. See you soon?” she asked.

“Yeah, we're on our way,” Mark told her before hanging up.

Mark got into the car and Jamie turned to face him, still having a hard time. Mark took Jamie's hand into his own and rubbed it with his thumb, comforting Jamie. Jamie looked up at him with big eyes and gave him a weak smile.

“I talked to may sister, Linda. She says you can stay the night and maybe you two can work out something more long term because she is looking for a roommate. My place is also available but I wanted to make sure that you had options” Mark explained.

“You can't possibly be real, you know that?” Jamie said, truly smiling for the moment.

Jamie decided that if he was going to be moving in with Linda, he might as well meet her now. With that, Mark and Jamie made their way to Linda's apartment. On the way, he told Jamie a little about Linda.
