"Alphonso?" I asked as we stopped at the entrance to read the sign. "The Mysterious?" The others simply walked past me to find their seats. "The fuck?" I demanded as I rushed after them. "Hypnosis? Really? We're going to some cheap-ass hypnotist act?"

My respect for my 'friends' hit an all-time low. Granted I was practically dragged to Las Vegas, but for what? Stupid non-entertainment? From a no-name random person? We made it to our seats and I dropped into mine in a huff.

"What's wrong, Erica?" Carrie asked me. "Aren't you excited for the show?"

"This is going to be so stupid," I responded.

The lights went down and Alphonso came out on the stage. He actually tripped over his own feet as he made his way to center stage. "Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen!" he greeted. "Tonight, I will need a volunteer from the audience!" I rolled my eyes. Of course the nerdy amateur would need a pretty female volunteer.

Alphonso started looking over the audience. No doubt looking for his plant to perform his stupid act. "You!" Suddenly, spotlights were focused on me. What, had he selected me? "Would you be willing to volunteer?"

I started to protest, but Lisa cut me off, declaring that of course I would volunteer, before pulling me out of my chair and ushering me towards the stage.
