Just knock

You chuckle quietly, wondering what's about to happen, and you raise your hand to the door of Carmen's office and knock. There's a pause before Carmen calls out from inside.

"Who is it?"

"It's John Colins!" you announce, loud enough for her to hear you. Just in case, you look around to make sure nobody else is around, but it's way too late for anyone to be in the office.

Again, there's a long pause, before you hear footsteps behind the door. The handle turns and the door opens outward slightly, just enough for Carmen to poke her head out sideways.

"Hi!" you greet her with a smile.

"...you really are John Colins," Carmen responds, with a befuddled look on her face. You wonder how much about you Bruno has told her, but even if he hasn't, your association with him is now public and your face and name is certainly recognizable given your recently acquired fame and fortune.

"Yes, I am. I'm a friend of your father's and I was stopping by to see him, but it appears that he's not here."

"He's in Shanghai. Uh... what can I do for you?" Since Carmen's still just poking her head out, you imagine she hasn't had time to change out of her outfit.

"Oh, nothing urgent really. Bruno mentioned you worked here as well and I thought I would drop by and say hello."

"At... this hour?"

"Well, I figured you might be around since Bruno talks about you taking over the business one day. And look, here you are, hard at work when everybody has long gone."

Carmen cracks a smile, flattered by your words. "Thank you. That's nice of you to say, though I don't think I've ever heard my father talk about me taking over the company..."

"Well, I haven't known him for long, but he certainly has. More than a few times too. Anyway, would you like to go get a drink?" you ask.

Carmen looks flustered at the question and she takes a moment to answer. "Uh... sure. Let me uh... just grab my coat! Give me a minute!" she says, and slams the door shut.
