After the storm

It's been 8 days since the storm hit and while large parts of the city are still in bad shape, the flooding is starting to recede and people are trying to get back to their regular lives. That means that City Hall is open again. Much of the building remains in good condition, although the basement is still completely flooded, but at least the city workers can come back and resume their jobs, helping the city to get back to its feet.

Facing the closed door in front of you, you feel tired and nervous. Against your intentions, now the city, and the world, knows that you have powers. At first, people were grateful for your help in saving all those people, but their reactions soon turned into suspicion and fear, calling for your resignation or an investigation into you. You had avoided speaking to the media, focusing on saving lives, but at some point, your help is no longer needed as people start to return to their homes. After all, you're not an insurance agent or electrician, the most important functions required right now.

So here you find yourself, in a wrinkled suit and listening to the murmurs on the other side of the door, in City Hall. You hear footsteps approaching from behind you, followed by Ashley's voice. "I've written down some remarks if you want to use them," she says, offering you a printed sheet of paper. You glance at it briefly, but don't take it, shaking your head. T

"It's okay. I've got this," you respond.

"...are you sure?"

"Yes."

"...well, I'll be here when you're done."

You look at Ashley and smile, thankful for her loyalty. You wonder what she makes of everything and you're about to ask her, when she looks at the time on her phone and points to the door. "It's time," she says.
