Meet Sarah’s parents

You arrive upstairs just as the doorbell rings, and you brace yourself to meet Sarah’s parents.

It isn’t the first you have encountered them, of course. It was your unintentional eavesdropping on Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes’ conversation with Dean Baxter on that fateful day that triggered the events that led to the sex-filled school year you have enjoyed. This time, however, you will actually have to talk to them and not arouse any suspicions about what’s going on under the sheets in their daughter’s dorm.

Sarah rushes past you and greets her parents with a warm embrace. She introduces them to “my roommate, Kendra, and her boyfriend, Connor.”

“Glad to meet you, Connor,” says Mr. Rhodes, with a firm handshake and an appraising eye. “I’ve heard an awful lot about you.”

You gulp and give a questioning look to Sarah, wondering just what she might have told her parents about you. She comes to the rescue, saying, “Now, don’t be modest! I told them all about how you are such a committed scholar that Kendra has to plead with you to take a break from your books just to meet with her in the supervised co-ed lounge.”

“Right....” I respond, returning the handshake. “That’s me... ultra committed to my studies. I don’t want to waste the money my parents are investing in my education, after all!”

“That’s the spirit,” he says. “You’re exactly the kind of young man I hope Sarah finds some day: a wholesome, stable gentleman. Kendra, you’re a lucky young woman!”

We continue our chitchat while Mrs. Ivers finishes setting the table. It is only when we are getting ready to sit down and I see a vacant setting that I realize there’s one person I haven’t met yet.

“Where is Jeni?” you ask.

“I haven’t seen her,” says Kendra. “I don’t even know if she is home.” She sits down in a chair at the table and pats the chair next to her, motioning for you to join her.
