Chapter 5 by gunde gunde

Which of the above does Hauk choose? Or does he come up with another option?

Find the sellswords market

Deciding that his battling skills might need a little tuning up, Hauk opted for finding the market at which men and women skilled in the martial arts rummaged for work.

He spent hours walking up and down the streets of Gordor, his quest taking him over a good deal of the city. While Hauk was no stranger to cities, the size and splendour of Gordor struck him with awe. Everywhere on the streets there were vendors offering out their goods, with whores standing on the corners next to missionaries, while men and women of might could be seen travelling through the streets in their carriages. The city was alive with the sounds and smells of thousands of people conducting their daily chores, and Hauk couldn’t help but feel its pulse.

Finally, he managed to locate a plaza that looked as if it was what he had been looking for:
It was sparsely crowded in comparison with the other market squares that Hauk had passed so far, and those strolling over it all looked as though they were soldiers or warriors, of every possible race and culture.

Around the plaza were eight different buildings, all of them appearing to house one group of armed fighters or another, with small groups of uniformed soldiers or clerics standing outside the gates of each building. This had to be it, Hauk thought as he walked out onto the plaza.
There, several boards were placed, with notes and posters placed on each one of them.

Picking one randomly, Hauk began to glance at the various notes, sorting out the work offers that seemed promising.

First, there was an offer to fight at the city’s gladiatorial arena. This offer was made in the shape of a standard-looking poster, and as Hauk looked around, he could see similar ones on all the nearby bulletin-boards. The poster offered a large sum of money for anyone who dared to enter the competitions, and lasted till the end.

Next, there was a small note from someone named Faith, promising a hefty deal of money and treasure for those who followed her on an expedition.

Thirdly, an unnamed writer made an offer similar to Faith’s; offering riches in return for service in a dangerous quest.

Does Hauk decide on one of these offers, or does he look at the next bulletin-board?
