“Onix, use Slam!” Onix rears up, preparing to bring its entire weight down on its opponent. Just before it can do so, however, Janine flickers out of sight for a moment, only to come back into view right away. Just as Onix slams against the ground, Venomoth suddenly soars back into the sky, dodging the attack entirely. What? That’s impossible, it was nearly knocked out!

“Janine, what did you do!?” you accuse.

“Me? I didn’t do anything,” she replies, stashing an empty bottle in her gi. Damn it, she used a potion, didn’t she? That’s not fair, you can’t even enter the battlefield without getting crushed, poisoned, or blown away…

The dramatic motion of Slam speeds up the poison affecting Onix, making it take longer to recover than usual. With Onix laying flat across the ground, it’s a sitting duck for Janine’s next attack.

“Onix, get out of the way!”

“Venomoth, use Psybeam!” Without having to worry about a counterattack, Venomoth uses a prolonged Psybeam, taking full advantage of Onix’s weakened state. Combined with the earlier Psybeam and the poison damage Onix took, it’s enough to KO your only available pokemon. You were so sure you could clutch a victory with Onix, too… Ninjas are cheaters…

Janine walks over, looking mostly unconcerned with the results of your battle. “Well, it looks like you lost again. Ready to join the Ninja Academy now? I might even throw in some pokemon trainer lessons.”

“No,” you pout.

“I had a feeling you’d say that. I guess I’ll just have to show you how cool you could be with me teaching you!”
