How do you continue?
You can't make it much further
You have no idea what you're walking into, every bone in your body begs you to stop, but you don't have another option.
All you can do is hope you can see them before they see you. Your stomach tosses, your body shivering in the mildly cool air. You can't remember feeling this cold in such pleasant weather before, it's just cool enough to keep the humidity out of the air. But you're miserable.
You keep your teeth from chattering, soon the sounds are clearer, they're voices. You can make out common words but nothing that your exhausted brain can string into phrases or sentences. You're brain becomes bleary and you begin losing control of your body. You let yourself fall to your knees, trying to catch your breath. Slowly you sink into the mud. You didn't think you could get this cold, but perhaps you've been out longer than you realize. You listen closely, fishing for words as you breath deeply, "...salt-pork...." comes audible, and this makes your stomach growl uncontrollably. You realize now how bad a shape you find yourself in.
You rise from the mud. It covers you from knee to foot at this point. You make your final push. Whatever happens, they have to help you, or this whole thing ends here. You summon what you have left for energy and walk.
Everything else slowly fades away, your ears begin to ring and your vision begins to blur. You feel cold sweat mist your body, wetting what is already soaked. Your already addled mind begins to fire even slower, the weight of the cape becoming heavy. You toss it away, leaving it behind.
You shamble onward time slowing to a crawl, the ringing dampens and then drowns out everything, you're not even sure your still going the right way. And then you trip, landing face first into the mud. You fight to maintain consciousness but the world spins and then all is black once more.
